Why Can't We Download Files on Cite HR? Seeking Help from the Admin Team

Why are many of us not able to download files? Is there anyone from the administration team of the site who can explain this and provide a tentative time frame for resolving the issue? I've been trying to download something urgently, but it's really frustrating to end up in the same place every time. The concerned person or team is requested to please resolve this as soon as possible. I hope this will be addressed shortly. (I apologize for posting in the wrong forum, but I didn't know the right place and was actually trying to download something from this forum, so I thought to post it here only.) Regards.

You are right. Sometimes the files don't open. Always try to save first and then open. I am sure you will get better results.

I tried this too (downloading first and then opening), but some attachments fail that way as well. Maybe the Admin team should figure out a foolproof way to save everyone's time and effort.

Yes, I agree with TS. When I click on any file, a new webpage opens, that's it. What to do? I am in need of something very urgent and sure that is available here.

I sent an email to the citehr administrator today regarding the same issue, and they replied to me that I'll get the answer for this within the next 24 hours. I hope you also receive the answer as soon as possible.

Even I am facing the same issues. I wonder why the individuals responsible for resolving the technical problem are behaving as if it is a situation in a government department. Where is this sarkari babu resting, I wonder. This is ridiculous, I would say. In my opinion, this site should operate 24x7 without any hurdles. In case of any problem, it should be resolved within minutes rather than days or hours. Please, the concerned party, look into the matter.

Please stop saying that it's like a government department and all (insulting the government as well as not giving time for CiteHR). There might be some technical errors, and now that all of us have raised our concerns, the admin must be working on it.

We don't know what the technical problem they are facing is. It might be something that will take a longer time. Shweta and a few others (including me) have raised a request to look into it.

Let's hope it gets through soon.

Season's Greetings.

I do agree with members, but it was observed that the members' documents are sometimes corrupted due to viruses or OS issues. Another minor issue is related to the "Open With" option. For example, a PowerPoint (PPT) file is accessed or opened in PDF format, etc.

A similar issue arises with original documents created in MS Office 2007, as some members are accessing the documents in MS Office 2003. Since some members still have MS Office 2003 to access the documents, compatibility issues may occur. PDF documents, which are generally accessed in Adobe Acrobat Reader, have a smaller version where PDF documents may fail to open. The suggested request is to update to the current version.

Members facing the same issue can convert the posted documents on [Zamzar](http://www.zamzar.com) for free, if needed.

Lastly, I request members to be aware that sometimes our own systems (PCs/Laptops) are infected with viruses, which may be another reason for documents failing to open. Please update your MS Office and keep the systems clean.

I kindly request the postmaster of Citehr.com to look into the matter regarding queries submitted by the members for the failure of documents to open.

Hi all,

It's really annoying to see that your favorite downloads are either not opening or getting corrupt. I think in most cases you should check your system settings (if you are trying it on your office computer, as most people do that :icon1:)... Most IT departments remove the privilege of downloading by their staff unless authorized. Anyway, here is one simple solution if your downloading settings are okay... Try downloading the same file to the same location and select 'overwrite' every time it prompts you... Believe me, it worked for me every time! All the best.

Hi,

I agree with Ditti and all the rest of us. The file downloads alright, but when you click to open it, it says the file is corrupt. I have used stuff posted on citehr before, but this issue has never occurred in the past. Now, being able to download something seems impossible! It's becoming a waste of time, and I dislike that people are putting up their hard work for others to see and share, but one can't commend them for their efforts.

In fact, I am also facing the same problem. Even though you are logged in and try to open or download a file, it will take you back to the login page, asking for the login ID and password.

Every time I open the attachment, a dialog box opens to enter a username and password. It is not accepting the old password; I have to create a new password.

The data center where CiteHR is hosted experienced a power loss yesterday, which affected all the servers. I am in communication with the people at the hosting provider, and this issue should be resolved soon.

It's really regrettable that the site has collapsed and no one could download anything from this site, which is very important. In fact, I sent an email last Thursday to the administrator about the issue but did not receive any response from them.

This issue has been resolved - the file server is back online, and people should be able to download files from CiteHR now.

There are a number of basic problems here.

1. People do not read any other posts before posting a message. Even after the Admin posted a message to say there had been a power outage at the hosting site, people still continued to complain.

2. It does not need 77 people to complain all saying the same thing. I am sure the Admin was onto the problem and doing their best to resolve it.

3. If this site is a matter of life and death for you (which it isn't, no matter what you say), then you need to seriously think about your career and find employment more suited to your skills and experience. Having been a member of this site for some time now, I am totally convinced that there are many HR people out there in jobs they have neither the skills nor experience to do. This site is not here to train you in HR Management. You should already have that training before you take on an HR position.

4. Harking back to Point 1. Before you post a message, read all the previous posts first. If other people are commenting on a downloaded file, etc., then it means other people have successfully downloaded the file. You will then know there is nothing wrong with the file. Don't fill the thread with endless "can't download the file, please send to my email" stuff. Resolve your own IT issues at your end first.

Finally, I know a few members get a bit cross with my postings. So be it. I'm a big boy now; I can take it. But I ask the question, whatever happened to common sense? Try using some, and your life will be so much easier and far less stressful.

Hi, very true, the downloads are not working at all. This website is really a pain now. You are directed to a blank screen if you try downloading. The whole purpose of them having this website is a waste! I request the admin to make this site easier to handle. 😕

Hey people,

I am facing the same problem. I thought it was only happening to me. When I try to download something, it asks for the login ID and password. Even if you enter it correctly, it says your login ID and password are incorrect, even though it shows you are logged in. This issue occurs when I am attempting to download something from the site.

To the technical team managing this amazing site, please try to resolve the issue that us mere mortals are encountering.

Seriously, the download problem is back at CITEHR. Right from this morning, the issue with downloads has persisted, and no one from CITEHR has addressed it anywhere. Hopefully, things are being taken care of in the background, but we are expecting an official announcement from the MODERATOR. Please:confused: Thank you.

Dear All,

CHR is already aware of the issue, and the same is being worked upon. The reason for such problems is the heavy content upload and download at any given point in time.

The problem may seem simple and easy at the user end, but it is not the same at the backend. Therefore, kindly adjust for the time being.

In the coming times, things will change as CiteHR will be expanding its capacity.
