Can Employees Share Their Job Descriptions? Is It a Good Practice or Not?

mfaheem
Dear all,

Hope you all are fine and doing well.

Can you please confirm for me if it is possible for an employee to view/share his/her job description with other employees in the same department or within the organization? What do you think about this? Is this a positive exercise or not?

Regards, Faheem

Hi,

Yes, any employee can share his roles and responsibilities with other employees. However, there are limitations to that. For example, people who work in recruitment can share responsibilities such as how they source candidates, the salary breakdown, etc. But you should not share the salary grid (what we offer to external candidates).

Hope this answers your question.

Dear Faheem,

You are right, and it's a very good habit and exercise to share job descriptions with other people to make improvements in a real and creative way.

Faheem,

Sure, you can share your JD with your colleague. JD is the description of the tasks you handle, the responsibilities you have, and it also includes your line of reporting, the qualifications required, etc. So, leaving apart the remuneration part, you can surely share the JD.

Faheem,

Allowing your organization to have access to the job descriptions is very good. It is an excellent means of engaging employees in the capability requirements of positions in the organization. Additionally, these documents are not personal - in the sense that they relate to positions and not people. It is also a very good guide for individuals regarding how they structure their careers within the organization.

You did well.

Kind regards,
Angela
