When we were young, we had dreams of pursuing one particular field, and that kept changing over a period of time. Life has given us the time to think, choose, and pursue.

Have you continued to pursue your dreams from the very beginning, or have they changed? Please share.

My dreams kept changing over a period of time. I wanted to become a Scientist, then an Artist (Interior work), then felt this would be better as a Software Engineer. I loved Criminal/Corporate Law, so I wanted to become a Lawyer, Criminal Psychologist, Human Resources... And I ended up in Human Resources! :-D

Initially, I wanted to become a teacher as I love teaching. Then, I wanted to join an NGO, and after that, I wanted to work as a lecturer. Afterwards, I started liking interacting with different people. I then wanted to enter into the media to fight against the bad and corrupted people in India as I love my country and have a passion for it. Finally, I joined MBA and ultimately ended up in HR.

Now, I want to leave my job and relax. 😄

Very true, we all dream or are passionate about something, but the circumstances will take you somewhere else... In life, for me, it's a big list... Right from Army, Entertainment, Cricket, media, corporate... It kept changing with changes in circumstances, perception, and ground reality... Still, I am young. Let's see where I'll land... Hopefully not in an alien land...

I see a lot of difference between what men want to become and what women want to become (I mean during the growing stage). I feel that boys, in the growing process, tend to think of "danger and fun" involved in tasks, while girls often lean towards the softer side, focusing on interaction and creative work.

I am not concluding with just these three views. If more people could add their comments, it would be interesting to see how it varies from gender to gender. It would also be fun to know where we have landed at this point of our life!

It's really a nice topic. Since my childhood, I have wanted to become a pilot. I am very passionate about that job. Without a second thought, I pursued an MBA and then decided to pursue a career in HR, which I have achieved. However, I still aspire to work in the aviation industry, at least in an HR capacity.

Initially in school days, I wanted to become a pilot, then I wanted to become a doctor, and then in grad school, I decided to become a scientist. However, I finally landed in HR. 😄

Early on, I wanted to be an artist. During my school years (11th grade), my interest shifted towards becoming a software engineer as I love programming and computers. Then, in college, I aspired to become a lecturer because I was impressed by one of my teachers. Additionally, my accounts teacher was pursuing a CS degree, which sparked my interest in the field. Eventually, I became a multimedia designer, and now I aim to transition into HR. :icon10:

This is a really interesting exercise!

As for my dreams and aspirations, there have been many - IFS Office, do a PhD, Psychologist, Interpreter of 5 foreign languages, Philosopher, and finally down to HR cum Training Professional. From here, it would be into freelancing as a Training Professional!!

I started as becoming a Pilot because I liked Ray-Ban glasses and blue jackets. Then, I thought of becoming an astronaut because I liked watching documentaries about space. After that, I wanted to be a model, then an RJ, then an anchor. Finally, at 23, I have landed up with a profile of a Behavioral Trainer, about which I had never thought. This is life; one never knows where it would take us tomorrow. So live today, be happy, and share happiness. :)

But I believe a little bit of all these qualities is there in you. Correct me if I am wrong:
You have a good sense of dressing (You like to present yourself really well).
You like investigating issues that are unknown to many.
You enjoy entertaining people and always spread some laughter.
If you want to - you know how to get everyone's attention (if you want to).
You know what it takes for a successful career, so you landed with a Behavioral Training profile.

PS: I am just trying to see if all of us have dreams and end up with just one - do we have the traits of all other professions (that we once liked) in us?

Its really interesting topic. It made me to think back and realise what i wanted to become.....and what am i doing now.

In early days of My school.... I was wanted to become an Great Business man.... and then in my school 10th decided to become a Doctor..... then at the time of my graduation decided to do MBA to become a Business Man... in early days after my MBA, Keen to grow in Marketing Field but ultimately Joined a recruiter. After working 2 Years as a core Recruiter felt bore and wanted to learn SAP HR Functional and Become a Consultant......
After doing My certification... Was unable to become a SAP Consultant and then Started A CONSULTING COMPANY( Started Business).......
Due to Recession... after running my Company for 2 Years... Closed it and Finally Became an SAP HR Functional Consultant.........Now i am an SAP HR Functional Consultant.

But Ultimately... I would Become a BUSINESS Man 5 Years Down the LINE. and Finally End My career as a Lecturer to share my Experiences and Knowledge to Next Generation....

Same like Asha, my dreams used to keep changing. I know it's very strange. In my school days, I wanted to become... an Ice Cream wala :) Then join the Police force. After that, I felt it would be better if I became an Artist as I'm good at drawing and painting. Next, I wanted to become a Criminal Lawyer, as I talk and argue a lot :confused: Finally, I landed in Human Resources... Now let's see where I will land... :-D

First of all, you really deserve a huge round of applause because this is something that we people do not have time to think about in this fast-paced life. This post of yours has given some direction to our thinking... Thanks a lot.

As far as I am concerned, right from the age of 3, I got deeply involved in love with art - dance, and I always thought and dreamt of becoming a professional artist. This was what even my parents dreamt through my eyes, and by God's grace, I had all the required capability and skill to proceed further in this line. But God had something else for me in his kitty. I selected an artist - vocalist as my life partner who did not encourage me in getting into art as a profession, and thus, I got diverted into commerce and general backend operations in any organization. But the artist in me never fell back, and I used my creativity in my job. Now, I can say that I am a good housewife, mother, administrator at home as well as the office, play my role in HR as well as General Admin.

My goal for the future is to set up a one-point consultancy firm which would also take care of event management as an extended wing and also function as a PR for my husband in his profession as a vocal artist. I visualize myself entangled with wireless devices all over and happily dealing with them, satisfying all my internal as well as external customers, wherein I am myself one of the customers for myself. I would love to keep myself extra busy with no time to think and brood over the problems coming in the way of my enjoyable life.

Nice topic, dear. Like everyone, during my childhood, I wanted to be a doctor, then a fashion designer, followed by a software engineer, then a jewelry designer. I ended up pursuing my MBA in HR. Now, I am working as an HR Consultant.

My childhood dream was to become an IAS officer and then a journalist. Finally, by God's grace, I am in HR now. What would be next? :)

In childhood, I felt that being a doctor was a decent profession. Then, after 12th grade, I started pursuing CS. I cleared the foundation and intermediate levels and then began doing an MBA because I wanted to start earning as soon as possible. I did summer training in Finance (majoring in Finance and minoring in HR). I received a very good offer in Finance from a reputable company, but they wanted to send me to the South, which I was not interested in. In fact, my fiancée was also not interested in relocating.

Instead, I chose to work in HR in Delhi. I have been in HR for over 3 years now and I am happy with the work I have done. Since my graduation, I have had a desire to contribute to the field of education by providing quality education to the next generation in a reputed college. I hope that after gaining more corporate exposure, I will eventually transition to a well-known college with a genuine interest in providing quality education.

Yes, we had/have dreams. But how many of us really and seriously 'followed' our dreams? It's not enough just to dream. Dreams are to be turned into visions, and visions have to be turned into actions. If that process is done, most of our dreams/visions would have been realized and will be realized. Most often, we dream, but rarely do we back up these dreams with action. That's why our dreams just remain as dreams. Hope you recall Kalpana Chawla's words: "I had a dream, and I closely followed this dream," and the dream came into reality. Yes, one must have dreams, and it's equally important to 'follow those dreams.' "Vision without action is daydreaming." I think most of our dreams were not real dreams but just daydreams.

Nice topic and good going, keep it up. As Sreeni mentioned, this topic made me think back and realize what I wanted to become and what I am now. My parents used to say I always wanted to become a magician when I was in school. After completing school (10th grade), I wanted to become a five-star hotel chef and pursue hotel management. Then the dream of becoming a software engineer struck me until my graduation. After that, I pursued an MBA and now have landed in HR. I am now planning to join SAP HR. I don't know what is going to happen this time.

When I was a child, I always thought of becoming a doctor. I lost medical entrance merit list with margin, then scientist (geophysics) as I am a first-class Physics Honours. Then artist as I am a Master Graduate in Fine Arts. Then just a housewife as I fell in love with a handsome guy. Then got into HR as I am an MBA in HR. Now I want to have my own business house, maybe a Dhaba, and the journey continues. :-P:icon10::-P:?::icon1::(:icon7::confused::huh:

It's very nice to chat about these kinds of topics because, you know, one thing—I am also practicing in HR for around 1415 employees in various categories. In my school days, I dreamed of becoming an IAS officer. I completed my BBM without any planning, and just like that, I joined as a storekeeper in a media company where I happened to do all the administrative work. To enhance my skills, I studied MA in Public Administration, which proved to be very useful in my job area where I had to handle many problems.

After that, I completed an MBA in HR with good scores. This improved me a lot, and I then switched over to a company where I managed only 77 persons. Now, I am capable of handling around 1415 persons in various categories and different age groups. It took me 7 years of study to understand what HR and Administration truly entail. However, I still maintain the confidence that one day, I will definitely become an IAS officer where I will have to handle numerous individuals.

So, just let your life flow in its way. You cannot predict the future, but at the same time, you can track your path. Believe in yourself first.

This activity actually helped me walk back to my childhood days! I've always wanted to join the Indian police, then thought of becoming a professor, software engineer... However, currently, I am in training and quality!

Fortunately, I can discuss what I wanted to be... or not to be. I wanted to be a doctor after my class 12th. I worked very hard to score a good percentage, but I had to think of doing graduation and then post-graduation with Science and Chemistry. I wanted Botany.

I simply wanted a good husband who takes care and gives me my space! I had no words after my marriage, and now, after 14 years, he is a great human being, disciplined, and of course, good. But see, I simply wanted good.

Then I did not want to be a teacher, but teaching was the choice I got to start with. I keep questioning my wants and desires.

One of our managers walked through an activity earlier which is quite similar to this. It actually helped us understand where we stand - whether we have achieved what we wanted in our lives. If not, he asked us where we want to be in the next five years and what we intend to do to achieve that goal! It was really interesting since we all had different goals to achieve in the coming few years; however, we were nowhere close to the ladder to make that first step...!!!

It's amazing to see that you are happy while responding. All of us had dreams, and today we have chosen a different path. But I believe we have a little bit of everything in us:

- The caring nature in us - for those who dreamt of being a Doctor
- The detective nature - for the people who wanted to be investigators, reporters
- The patience to explain - for those who dreamt of becoming teachers
- The creative energy - for those who wanted to become artists/dancers

It's just there in our nature, and all those dreams have not gone in vain; it's there in us. There is a little of everything we dreamt of in our childhood in us. That's what makes us unique!

Everyone has dreams and passions. Similarly, during my childhood, I wanted to be a commercial pilot inspired by my uncle. Then I ended up in engineering and aimed to become an Automobile Engineer. Eventually, I shifted my focus to the functional domain rather than the technical aspect, leading me to pursue an MBA.

Being a people person and always acting as one indicated my passion for people management. This realization prompted me to chase my dream and passion, ultimately leading me to choose HR. Thanks to the course, I have developed the skills necessary for general management with a focus on HR.

Currently, I am very content pursuing my passion in L&D - HR. However, one can never predict the future. Perhaps, I may aspire to be an entrepreneur. Let's see where it takes me.

I took up MBA (HR+IT) to pursue this goal. Currently, I am working as an HR manager and am very happy with my career as I am constantly learning. Yup, it happens to everyone. I had lots of dreams too. Still, I have. I started with dreaming of being a cricketer. When I passed 10th grade, I wanted to be an engineering graduate, but I ended up in commerce. After that, I wanted to pursue a course in CA, but fate led me to MBA. Now, I am working as an Assistant HR.

Still, there are lots of dreams lingering, but I am loving the changes.

Don't you think the HR opportunity that most of us have finally landed in has given us a platform to perform? I mean, wanting to become a doctor - we have at least been good listeners and suggesting the right prescription to many people...

For people who wanted to become a journalist - we are still doing reporting/surveying work, getting right on the spot and getting info from our beloved employees and communicating that to the Senior Management.

Then for the people who wanted to do something in law/investigation - I guess HR people keep doing it most of the time...

For those who wanted to be a model - I believe HR adds value to brand image by presenting our company really well to outsiders!

For those (including me) who wanted to take Criminal law/psychology - uhmmmm yet to see what opportunity lies in HR 🤷‍♂️

For those who wanted to be a teacher - the mentoring nature is there in you and is adding value to the HR role you are currently in.
