Seeking Advice on Career-Boosting HR Courses: What Worked for You?

arti09
It's been over a year since I started my career in HR. Currently, I am working as an HR Executive (Generalist profile) in a reputable MNC and hold an MBA-HR degree. I would greatly appreciate any guidance you could provide on professional courses (correspondence/distance) based on your work experiences that could enhance my skills and advance my career. I am eager to receive valuable responses with relevant statistics.

Hi Arti,

Since you have already completed your MBA, you can consider enrolling in the ISTD course. It will be an additional degree to your MBA.

May I ask from which university you obtained your MBA?

You must concentrate on your experience and take part in discussions with experts to explore all avenues of knowledge. You have already acquired qualifications that are more than enough. One degree is sufficient; in Western countries, degrees are expensive, but in India, it seems like it's considered garbage. Everyone, after graduation, continues with further education; it has become a trend.

Hi Arti,

ISTD is a very reputable institute that will enhance your knowledge in the field of Training & Development. The best approach is to gain job experience, as certain aspects cannot be taught by any course or institute, including any MBA program.

Dear Arti,

You can do a course on labor law, which is very important for a person with a Generalist profile. Additionally, you can consider taking the ISTD course. You may also want to think about the competency development course by TVL Rao.

Dear all,

The course ISTD will be a corresponding course in training & development. I want to improve my training skills and enroll in a course on the same, but I feel practical knowledge is very important, which this corresponding course won't offer. Can you please suggest some regular colleges in Mumbai that conduct classes on weekends or in the evening on weekdays?

Thanks in advance.

Smita

Hi All,

Regarding the courses in law, which do you find to be most suitable for an HR professional? Also, please suggest colleges/universities that provide excellent courses through distance learning/correspondence. I would also like to encourage our seniors to spare their valuable time to address my concerns and suggest other alternatives too.

Arti :)

Hi Arti,

Good day to you.

I suggest that you also try looking into the programs of the Association of Business Executives (ABE, UK) and the University of Southern Queensland (USQ). The former is an educational provider whose examinations are administered by The British Council, and the latter is a prestigious school in Australia. Both provide quality learning geared towards working people, are easy to manage, reasonably priced, and reputable and recognized.

I hope you find a program that suits and meets your needs.

Thank you.

Hi Arti!

Concentrate on fetching knowledge and experience. Work for at least 2-3 years, then only look for any course because after 2-3 years of experience, you will see the exact path in which you are heading. At that time, choose the course which is beneficial for your career.

You can do a diploma in Cyber Law, Labour Law, or a course from ISTD (Delhi), but I prefer you should go for any law course, i.e., in Labour Law, it will add an advantage.

Ady

Hi Ady,

As I am not very knowledgeable about law colleges in India, could you please suggest some good universities or colleges offering distance courses in law?

Hi Arti,

As per my suggestion, you can go for 2 options:

First, try to go for an Executive MBA program from IIM's or XLRI. It will definitely give you an instant jump in terms of financial growth, and priority will be given to you among the crowd.

Second, you can also consider taking the SAP HRMS functional course, which can further upgrade you in the HR domain, standing out among the crowd.

As of now, these are the options that come to my mind. I may tell you a few more in case I come across them.

Ram :)

Dear All,

How are you? I have a query. I have around 3 years of experience but still working as an executive. What do I need to do so that my life wheels move fast? Kindly suggest. 🤔

Dear Arti,

You can pursue DLL for Labour Laws. Along with that, you have to continuously read judgments and articles related to it. Any HR person aspiring to be a Generalist should have updated knowledge of Labour Laws. This will greatly benefit you in your career. Additionally, as our friends have mentioned, pursuing ISTD is also a very good option.

Thank you, Sandeep, for your kind reply. Actually, I too want to do a law course, but I am interested in law courses related to my HR field without being too complex. Please suggest some institutions that offer such education. Additionally, I would like to continue my studies while working.

Arti,

DLL / DLP are offered by many reputable institutions. Please let me know where you are working so that I can provide you with information on any good institutions in the same location. However, these courses will equip you with knowledge about the laws, but you should continuously update by reviewing CLR / LLR, etc., whenever you find the time. These activities will assist you in creating policies or rules for your organization. They will also provide insights into the legal implications of any specific rule or policy currently in place.

Hi Sandeep,

The fact is that I am working in Dehradun only in a reputed MNC, and here I didn't find any good institutes imparting law education through correspondence. So please advise.

I have also heard of the counseling courses that HR professionals opt for. There is an institute called IIPM in Mumbai.

I would be grateful if any of you could shed some light on the same.

Arti
