Valentine's Day: The HR Way

Valentine's Day is the one day when people who aren't particularly romantic get the chance to be so without feeling self-conscious about it. If you don't need it, that's fine, but some people do.

Do's and Don'ts of Valentine's Day

1. Never wear red and make a point of not talking about the 14th of February. If someone wishes you a happy one, do not show a reaction.

2. Don't go out to dinner on the evening of the 14th of February. You will be in the crowd of celebration contributing to the financial gain of restaurants.

3. Prepare a movie and food in a crock-pot so dinner will be ready, or fix something simple that evening. Dress in your comfortable lazy attire for a night to love yourself and watch an Anti-Valentine movie.

4. Anti-Valentine's Day is on a Saturday this year, so plan an overnight party. Invite your male and female friends, not ex-lovers. Have it at your place or better yet, rent a cabin and divide the cost. Rules are everyone must spend the night. You know that sooner or later the exes will find out (if you want them to) and you will have gotten your point across to yourself and someone else if that is your reason.

5. Perhaps the most positive way to be Anti-Valentine is to remember to love yourself. Take time to remember the family who loves you. This simple gift for yourself can make you feel more positive and experience true love.

6. Be thankful for who you are and what you have achieved in your life, no matter how small or big. It all counts. Think about the path you have taken, the details only you can appreciate.

7. "Trip over love, you can get up. Fall in love and you fall forever."

8. "Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind."

9. "The lover is a monotheist who knows that other people worship different gods but cannot himself imagine that there could be other Gods."

10. "We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love."

11. "Love helps us to communicate with God."

12. "Love is like a fire. Whether it is going to warm your hearth or burn your house down, you'll never know."

13. "Draw a circle, not a heart, around the one you love because a heart can break but a circle goes on forever."

Yaar, why so much antipathy against love? Let the world enjoy, my dear friend. Let people around not feel that HR guys are awesome, unmanageable, and unthinkable... OK.
