Is Signing a Two-Year Contract as an IT Recruiter Worth It for a Fresh MBA?

Hi all,

I want to know why entry to an HR professional is very tough. If not, we are asked to sign contracts with the employer. Please help me in making a decision. I am a fresh MBA.

I have received an offer from EPRO CORP PVT LTD. for the position of IT Recruiter, but they are asking me to sign a contract for two years. The pay is 7500 pm. The problem is, if I join as an IT recruiter, I am afraid that I will be doing the same job until the end of the second year, i.e., I will not gain experience in any other functional activities of HR. So, I am requesting your advice on whether to accept it or not.

Please make a pros and cons list on a piece of paper. Because at the end of the day, you will make the ultimate decision and not others.

PROS:
- Job opportunity
- Some income
- No waste of your time
- Opportunity to show your competence

- Gain work experience
- Understand the organization culture
- Understand the work climate
- Dealing with people internally
- Dealing with people externally
- Interviewing experience
- And more

CONS:
- Not an attractive salary
- Stuck for 2 years due to bond
- Minimal experience
- Fear of losing other opportunities
- And more

If you are confident of getting another job opportunity, forget about this one. However, I can also add that this bond is legally binding. Under your constitution, bonding is slavery and hence illegal. Companies get away with this due to the demand for jobs and lack of legal challenge. But at the same time, look at the positive side. Think about what you can learn in 2 years:
- Developing recruitment policies
- Developing selection policies
- Job analyses
- Writing job descriptions
- Writing job specifications
- Conducting interviews
- Evaluation of applicants
- Writing recruitment ads
- Interaction with other departmental heads
- Developing verbal communication skills
- Developing written communication skills
- Presentation skills

Plus, subject to your initiatives, you can gain more. Something to think about, but it is your decision.

I did that work soon after the interview session, but I don't know why people use this negative approach just to retain the employees, that too it is not a established concern, any how I got a good idea from your message and thank you very much for that .
After so much of thinking I decided to say no to that organization because I have strong confidence on me that I will be getting lots of offers to prove my competency.

My suggestion is as follows:

1. Join the company as an IT recruiter. You need to spend at least one year to understand IT terminology and develop excellent skills in that area. The more work you do, the more you learn. Initially, you also need to have a strong foundation.

2. Once you develop this skill, you can also participate in team-building activities by understanding the technical aspects. There is no specific timeframe for learning this. As you recruit, you will learn continuously.

As an HR professional, I can tell you the names of electronic components, protocols, various processors in DSP, Embedded systems, and VLSI. No one gave me time to learn this, but I learned it gradually as I recruited.

After induction, you should interact with individuals about the job, show interest, and learn more about their profiles. Most importantly, having a genuine interest in the field will help you gain knowledge.

Enjoy your work, even if it's for a contract.

Thank you for your advice, but after thinking a lot, I have decided to leave that offer because being my first offer made me feel negative, and moreover, it is not a reputed company. I don't want to spend my initial days without exposure.
