Choosing the Right MBA Program: Insights on SMU and Education Choices

How is Sikkim Manipal University for pursuing a distance MBA? I am planning to do an MBA from this university. I don't like IGNOU, IMT Ghaziabad, Symbiosis, or ICFAI (especially since I am a student of the ICFAI MCA program) as they are very difficult to pass. ICFAI has challenging passing requirements both individually and in groups, and they seem to deliberately fail students, while it appears that most female students and some boys who are known to regional centers pass. At least, that is the impression I got here in Calcutta.

Additionally, IGNOU requires a 10+2+3 criteria with 50% marks in graduation, neither of which I possess. I have a 2-year pass graduation from Calcutta University (which I find to have a very poor education policy and biased attitude towards some students, fully controlled by the Communist Party in Bengal) dating back to 1998, and due to the wrong education policy of this university, I am suffering now!!!

If you are looking for a degree only, I believe SMU is a good choice. Am I wrong? 😕

By the way, I am a sales executive in a pharmaceutical company based in Calcutta, and I am 32 years old. I have a total of 2 and a half years of experience.

Please tell me whether I am wrong in my decision or should I opt for an ERP-SAP training program on the S/D module? Friends and seniors, please guide me. I am in a horrible state of mind.

It's good to have a degree instead of nothing. After years of experience, it hardly matters from which university you have obtained a degree. I must say that you should have an MBA degree if you seek long-term growth in the field of marketing. I must also mention that IGNOU has a better reputation than SMU, but ultimately, it's up to us how we present ourselves in interviews or on the job. An MBA will also help expand your thinking horizon in management.

Yes, MBA degrees are very beneficial in the long term. Initially, the institution from which you obtained the degree may be important, but ultimately, your talent is what truly matters.

Please note that SMU is not providing anything in writing that they are accepting 2 years of graduation for MBA courses. Even in earlier sessions, they have done the same by not making any official commitment on eligibility criteria. If you go through the brochure, you will find that they are only accepting 3 years of graduation courses, whereas learning centers are saying that they accept 2 years graduates from Kolkata University. Hence, SMU has to communicate something in writing on 2 years of graduation acceptability on their website so that the acceptability of their degrees is widespread. I know a few of my friends who have done an MBA from SMU, and now they are really in the dark whether 2 years graduate can do MBA or not as there is no clear-cut communication from SMU nor UGC.
