How a Little Boy's Simple Question Reminds Us of What Truly Matters in Life

vedhapriya
Hi friends, this is a nice story about human values which is related to time in everyone's life.

A man came home from work late, tired, and irritated to find his 5-year-old son waiting for him at the door.

Son: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?"

Daddy: "Yeah sure, what is it?"

Son: "Dad, how much do you make an hour?"

Daddy: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?" the man said angrily.

Son: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"

Daddy: "I make Rs. 500 an hour."

"Oh," the little boy replied, with his head down. Looking up, he said, "Dad, may I please borrow Rs. 300?"

The father was furious, "if the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or other nonsense, then march yourself to your room and go to bed. Think why you are being so selfish. I work hard every day for such childish behavior." The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions.

How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down and started to think:

"Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that Rs.300 and he really didn't ask for money very often!"

The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

"Are you asleep, son?" He asked.

"No, daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy.

"I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier," said the man, "It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the Rs. 300 you asked for."

The little boy sat straight up, smiling, "oh thank you, dad!" He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow, he pulled out some crumpled up notes.

The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at his father.

"Why do you want money if you already had some?" the father grumbled.

"Because I didn't have enough, but now I do," the little boy replied.

"Daddy I have Rs. 500 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."

MORAL:

It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Thanks & Regards

Since this post is posted with the title "Man Came Home from Work Late" and it is posted in "Talk with Seniors," I thought your man is coming home late and you need advice. So, please post in the correct section. 😕😕

And that's why I never work for more than 9 hours. I go home early for the kids in my neighborhood because I don't have my own. Though a great moral. Cheers! 🌟

Priya,

If you can believe it, my daughter told me this story for the first time and gave me a lesson not to work late in the office. For a moment, I thought I found my guru in the form of my daughter who changed my attitude within a minute, something that management books and training programs could not do for the last 12 years. Good job, Priya. Keep it up.

Father can ask his son to come to his office for dinner. What's a big deal in that? After all, money is everything. I don't like all this emotional drama. If a man wants to give a good life to his dear ones, he has to work smart and hard.

Quite a few must have come across this... my professor told us that life has 4 balls: Job, Friends, Money, and Family. The earlier 3 are made of rubber and the last of glass. Drop any of the first 3, and they'll bounce back - sooner or later. However, if you drop the last one, it's bound to break or get scratched!

Please suggest me for summer training. I really need help. I am doing MBA and completed my B.Tech in Computer Science. Please help me for my summer internship, where can I do it? I really don't have any contacts; I want to do it in HR only.

Dear all,

This is a good story. We must care for our near and dear, apart from our working life, we must also care for our family. :)

Thanks for the nice story reflecting the very nature of human beings. As kids, we need love, and as we grow up, our value system becomes lopsided. The cycle gets repeated as we grow old; this is life and the law of nature. Thanks a ton. God bless.
