Should I Accept a New Job Offer or Wait for Recognition at My Current Company?

Hi guys,

Hope all are well. This is my first post, and I believe it's pretty important in my career. I'm currently employed in an MNC and exploring options to move out. I even have an opportunity with a better package. The main reason I decided to leave is due to the lack of recognition I received. Despite putting in my best efforts, I received a very low rating. The company is expected to secure a major project in my current account, and I have played a significant role in this. I have been involved in a business-critical activity for the past 5 months, and everything has been successful. Even the CFO of the client's organization has appreciated my efforts. However, now that all the critical tasks are complete, my manager seems ready to let me go.

My concern is whether I should consider the new offer now, without enjoying the benefits of the hard work I put in over the last 4-5 months. For context, I have 3 years of experience. I am looking forward to your suggestions.

You have mentioned that despite all the good work, you have been given a bad rating. You need to introspect and see if the rating is not justified, and if similar behavior continues, there is no point in continuing to work for such an organization. Since the company has decided to "dump" you anyway, the best thing is to look for other opportunities and "dump" this organization. Of course, you need to first get the right kind of offers elsewhere.

First of all, I want to congratulate you for your efforts in getting the prestigious project. Sometimes, it happens that people around you don't recognize or pretend to avoid the work you have put in. Since you have given your best for this project, why do you want to quit at this point? Hang on; let everybody understand this because wherever you go, this situation is bound to happen. So, fight it out, buddy!

I believe there are various reasons why you should stay with your current organization:

- Such things like people not recognizing your efforts can and do happen in many organizations.
- You should not leave the organization without reaping the fruits of your efforts; this is like giving up.
- You need to rebound with all your initiatives and enthusiasm and prove time and again that there is no substitute for hard work, especially for you.
- It is a recession phase, and you are blessed with a good job in an MNC. Risking what you have and trying for a better opportunity is not a good decision in such a phase.

You need to realize that you will receive advice and suggestions from everyone, but after all, it is your career decision; hence, take time to think before making your final decision.

Sometimes, a known devil is better than an unknown angel. Why shouldn't you represent your point of view to HR (hope you are not from the HR Department)? Because, at this time of recession, don't rush into hasty decisions.

I think you are gaining valuable experience, and remember that what belongs to you, no one can take away. So, think wisely. It's not the right time to leave your job. These things do happen in other organizations too. Even if you can see future prospects, why would you want to leave? Your company will definitely realize, or I should say they already know, your importance, so it's better to FIGHT BACK AND GIVE YOUR BEST DURING THIS TIME AS WELL. This will make you a better individual and help you deal with problems more easily.

I would like to explain my stance here and am really sorry for bugging you more. I think I am not a "YES MAN," which is probably one of the main reasons for this rating, unlike others in the team. I will always say, "Right is right and wrong is wrong, whoever does it (even me)." I am not sure if this is the way to go.

1. I think I need to move out because,

a. The work I did over the last appraisal period is not allowing me to continue further. Some who sat idle got better ratings than me. It has really hurt my motivation. After all, everyone works for "output" in one form or the other.

b. My manager should not come to a conclusion that I am a dead duck and that I will stay on no matter what ratings he gives, because of the recession and such. I believe I have the talent to survive anywhere.

c. The project that may come because of one of the reasons being me is a multimillion-dollar project and will surely make the account the biggest in the company.

d. I also had the opinion of speaking with HR, but I am not sure what the right way is, as this is a very big company with more than 50,000 employees. I am not sure if he/she will even be ready to meet me, telling me being emotional.

e. I have received a better offer from one of the competitors.

2. Why I need to stay on,

a. Heard a lot of stories (supposedly true) like a fighting warrior getting success in the end.

And guys, whatever I do, I am sure I need to make a point here.

If you have tried all the possible ways to fix this issue and strongly feel that things have gone beyond control, then probably you should step out.

Anyway, you have already received an offer from their competitor, which is quite good. Hopefully, they would appreciate your good work, and very soon, you will see success.

I suggest you make a move from this company where there is no motivation. I wouldn't have said this to you if you didn't have other opportunities in your hand. But, you got it right... then why are you waiting for it?

Before joining, inquire about the company where you got the offer; later, you shouldn't repent for this. In this recession period, if you have any opportunity, utilize it. Achieving success in the end and all that talk is good for listening... I will tell you, if you work for the same company for 3 years and don't get any recognition, and you continue to work expecting something in the near future... suppose after 5 years, you are promoted to the next level... WHAT'S THE USE?

Simply, you wasted your talent and precious time. Perhaps you could have utilized it somewhere else where there is scope.
