Navigating Career Shifts: How Can I Transition from Finance to HR with the Right Education?

guptaswati83
Dear Seniors,

Presently, I am working as an HR/Business executive in a software company with 1 year of experience in the HR domain. I started my career as a software professional in ERP, where I worked in the Human Resource & Finance module as a developer. During that time, I enrolled in Symbiosis distance learning for an MBA in Finance. Due to some circumstances, I have only completed 1 year of that program, and now, after 1 and a half years, I am preparing for the remaining exams.

As my field has now changed, I realize that to pursue a career in HR, I need an MBA in HR. I am seeking guidance on whether there are any short-term certifications or one-year HR programs available that I can undertake because even though I will have an MBA, it will be in finance.

Please advise me on what steps I should take next.

Thanks,
Swati

Hi Swathi,

There is a one-year duration course where you can specialize in HR, but I forgot the name of the institution which is very effective. I will let you know tomorrow the name of the institution. In which university did you do your MBA? Wasn't it a dual specialization?

Thank you.

Dear Swati,

You didn't mention from which university you are doing your MBA. If possible, ask your faculty members. Maybe they can give you better advice. On a different note, if you can't choose HRM as your major area, then you always have the option to do some diplomas like PGD, etc. Have you heard about PHR/SPHR/GPHR degrees before? They can help you be more focused on your career related to HR professionals.

Be safe and happy.

Hi,

If you are interested in continuing in HR, then you can pursue a one-year HR Diploma course from Welingkar Institute of Mumbai University.

Hi Swati,

There is a university that offers a Master's in Human Resource. If you have completed post-graduation, you can enroll directly in the second year. It's from Kuvempu University, Shimoga, Karnataka. The course fee is ₹17,8500 for one year. If you need further details, please let me know.

Dear Swati,

An MBA in finance would have given you good knowledge in payroll. You can enhance your understanding in this area, which would be beneficial since payroll is often a part of the Finance Department in many companies.

I believe it would be beneficial to focus more on gaining practical knowledge.

Swati.

One of my friends completed his MBA in Finance and is currently working in a reputed company. Now, he wants to pursue a course related to Finance. Kindly advise.
