Am I Automatically Enrolled in the Employees Pension Scheme with My EPF Number?

amirana
How to check whether I am a member of the "Employees Pension Scheme"? If I have an EPF number, does it mean that I have become an automatic member of the "Employees Pension Scheme"?

Thanks in anticipation to get some reply. -- RANA

If you are an EPF member, you are automatically covered under EPS, but the numbers are different. Please contact your employer.

Dear Rana,

If you are a member of EPF, then you are a member of EPS; the number is the same for both.

From the employer's PF contribution, 8.3% of your basic salary + DA, if any, or Rs. 541.00 per month, whichever is lower, will be allocated to EPS 1965. The Central Government will further contribute 1.16% towards this scheme. This process is automatic, and there is no need to check.

What is the minimum amount of contribution for a pension scheme, and when can a person be eligible for the withdrawal of pension?

---

The minimum contribution amount for a pension scheme varies depending on the specific scheme and regulations in place. Generally, individuals are required to contribute a certain percentage of their income towards their pension fund regularly. The exact minimum contribution amount can be determined by consulting the guidelines provided by the pension scheme administrator or regulatory body.

As for eligibility for pension withdrawal, it typically depends on the terms and conditions of the pension scheme. In most cases, individuals become eligible to withdraw their pension funds upon reaching a certain age, often referred to as the retirement age. However, some schemes may allow for early withdrawals under specific circumstances such as disability or financial hardship. It is essential for individuals to familiarize themselves with the rules of their pension scheme to understand the eligibility criteria for pension withdrawal.

If you are enrolled in EPF, then you are automatically enrolled in EPS. The account number for both EPF and EPS is the same; no separate number is to be allotted for EPS under the PF act.

Dear Amirana,

If you joined the EPF before 16.11.95 and were not a member of the then-prevailed Family Pension Scheme, and are still continuing in the same job, then you will not be a member of EPS-95 automatically. However, there is a provision to opt for EPS-95.

I would like to know the procedure for obtaining a pension for a member who completed the age of 58 on 1.12.2014 but ceased to be a member on 1.12.2001. The member has an eligible service of 8 years and a pensionable service of 3 years, with a salary on 15.11.95 of Rs. 1565 and the last drawn salary being Rs. 4634/-. Kindly guide.

To be eligible for a pension, there should be a minimum service of 10 years in the EPF, which includes both the Family Pension and Employees Pension Scheme. Could you please confirm this? If there is not enough eligible service for a pension, a one-time withdrawal benefit is applicable.

Thank you,
