Considering a Faculty and Training & Placement Officer Role: Is This the Right Career Move for Me?

Deepamba
Dear All,

I am an MBA-HR professional with 6 years of experience in HR. I have been offered a job as a Faculty in Management along with the Training & Placement Officer position at a college. Can anyone suggest whether this is the right field for me and what the actual role entails? I have heard that the Officer has to visit companies and act as a liaison between students and employers. What is the best approach and what is the process involved? Is this a good career move? What tips should I keep in mind to perform better in this role?

Please share your suggestions.

Regards

Thank you, Mr. Ravi, for your suggestion.

The college is offering training and placement work along with the faculty job. I want to know about the profile of the training and placement officer.

Training and Placement Officer:

Collect resumes of students who are in the final year and properly groom the students for interviews, format their resumes properly, and make them attractive. Keep in touch with good companies and prepare presentations of your college. During campus visits, inform the companies that your students receive the best training and are industry-ready. Assist students in placements. It's not a marketing job; it's a counseling job for students, acting as a link for arranging campus and other interview arrangements.

Thank you very much. I got the idea and now prepared for this new challenge. As you said that this is a noble profession, I would definitely maintain the same. If you want to give any other suggestions, please suggest.

Hi Deepa,

It is a good job. You can join CITE HR Pune Group. You can participate in the upcoming HR meet. By doing this, you will be introduced to the CITE HR member HRs in Pune.

It is a good opportunity to keep you in a dual role of coaching and training first. As a placement support, you would still enjoy the job. It all goes by how passionate you are in teaching, mentoring, and coaching students....

Dear All,

I recently joined an IT training corporation as a Training cum Placement Manager, and I have about four years of experience as a soft skills trainer. However, I have only one and a half years of experience in placing students in corporations.

Query on Approaching Corporations

My humble query is, do I have to walk into each and every organization and do a presentation, or can I just call, send mailers, and CVs of fresher candidates to corporations? How do I segregate between which company will ask candidates to upload CVs or will agree to a campus drive because most of these companies do not have an email address or a phone number that we can call.

Appreciate an early reply.

Regards,
Ss
