New Retail Company Needs Fresh HR Systems: How Would You Start from Scratch?

eafil.hr
Hi,

I am looking for inputs on setting up new HR systems and functions for a company that is completely new in retail. It operates under the flagship of the parent company but wants to avoid carrying any baggage from the parent company since the HR practices there are not desirable.

So, guys, please help me with your valuable inputs.

Best wishes,

You can probably appoint a senior HR person who knows how to set up HR systems in a new company and work under him.

Hi,

First of all, prepare some kind of procedure for the HR to follow. Remember, don't try to start with high-end HR processes but only with basics. Like, prepare an HR manual with all the details such as Company history, Mission & Vision statement, Company quality policy (in case there is one), Employee benefits, Employee rules & regulations, company policy, and other relevant details. To prepare an HR manual, you need to study the people and the company really well.

Then, put the basic forms and formats in place. For interviews, prepare the interview assessment sheet, reference check form, internal reference schemes, employee application form, preliminary offer letter, appointment letter, and joining report.

Similarly, pick one HR field and put the process in place. This complete process will not happen overnight; it will take time. So, go slow, but once implemented, follow it religiously.

Don't try to follow HR practices of other organizations since every organization has different kinds of employees in terms of maturity. So, try studying your company and then implementing HR practices accordingly.

Hi Jeeva,

Thank you for the advice. However, for your information, I am the only HR person in this 800 crore setup, yaar. I love to work independently, so I can't appoint anyone senior to me.
