Understanding PF Limits: Can My Company Reverse the 12% Deduction Above Rs. 6500?

MRajesh
Dear Seniors,

Season's Greetings. Can anyone tell me the existing max PF limit (i.e., 6500/-)? When did it change from 6000/- to 6500/-? Our organization is deducting PF at 12% above Rs. 6500/- basic salary, and now the organization wants to reverse it. Is it possible for us?

Please reply immediately.

Dear Rajesh,

In my view, discontinuation from the service and a fresh appointment can only give you the desired result.

Dear Rajesh,

A revision in the wage ceiling was made on 01.06.2001 from 5000 to 6500. If the employer is deducting PF at 12% and maintaining the limit at Rs 6500/-, then it's acceptable. However, if they intend to revert to the older ceiling, it is not permissible. This action goes against the law, and your organization cannot enforce this on you. If they proceed with this change, they will face significant PF liability, or the company might be blacklisted.

Vipin

Dear Vipin,

I agree that the PF limit was increased long back from 5000 to 6500. Once you have made someone a member of PF, he will continue to be a member of PF.

Thanks,
J.S. Malik
