MBA-HR Freshers Facing Layoffs: Should You Join a Consultancy or Wait for Better Offers?

Hi All,

Could you all please share your views regarding the opportunities that MBA-HR freshers can find at present, considering the current scenario of freezing and lay-offs? It's urgent.

Also, should we wait for better opportunities to arise or accept offers wherever they are available? Is joining a consultancy a good option for a fresher? What are the growth prospects? Do companies consider candidates who have previously worked in consultancies?

Your question is not being answered as many MBA freshers have asked the same question many times on this forum. I would suggest taking up whatever comes in your way. Recruitment would certainly teach you something; sitting at home wouldn't. While working in a consultancy, look for generalist job profile opportunities. You would be able to justify working in a consultancy during the HR generalist profile interview.

I know after finishing MBA, everyone has a dream to work as an HR Generalist. There is nothing wrong in this, but it's not always possible to achieve what we have always dreamed about. (I would be happy if an ice fall took place in Mumbai, but it's not possible. Right?)

I am an MBA-HR fresher (2009 pass out). Just 2 months back, I joined a consultancy. Although I am getting less pay, I decided to work for SenseHR. Sometimes, I feel that after MBA, I deserve much better than this but we can't help it. I can't sit at home for a long time; I have to take some action.

It's my advice: don't sit at home; do something in the HR field and keep on asking questions to seniors, which will enhance your practical knowledge. I have seen many HR Generalist profiles where individuals have experience as recruiters and after 1-2-3 years, they transition to working as HR Generalists.

Guys, don't be upset; cheer up and at least start working somewhere. Be proud to be an MBA-HR (future Manager).

I too would suggest the same. Sitting at home waiting for the big thing will not get you anywhere. In fact, getting into some decent job will definitely increase your market value as well as your prospects.

HR? What's this all about? Can anyone tell me what the functions of an HR manager are and where the HR process starts? Is it compensation? Is it benefits? Is it induction? Is it industrial relations? Is it OD? No, young friends, it's RECRUITMENTS. So why not start from the first step, why climb so high? I suppose I need not say anything more.

For any clarification, feel free to ask!

A very great saying... 'Something is better than nothing'. Sitting and waiting for something that is not time-bound will not aid growth. So you should take up whatever opportunities come your way. No experience goes unused. So, I suggest you all go ahead and grab experiences as long as they are related to some HR domain.
