Dress Code Policy for Retail: Can Anyone Share Their Guidelines?

veena_shinde
Dear Friends,

Could anyone please email me the dress code policy for a retail organization?
sundarjan
Hi Veena!

Normally, employees in a retail organization are provided with customized uniforms or at least white or colored overcoats with name badges. This is preferable so that customers know for sure whom to ask for any clarifications or help with their doubts. When giving out uniforms, it is necessary to provide them in adequate numbers so that employees can wash them. My suggestion is to offer at least three sets in the first year and two sets from the second year onwards.

Well Veena, for the Corporate Staff, you can circulate the following
dress code to all :

"In keeping with the Company's professional image, employees are expected to maintain appropriate standards of dress and behaviour. All employees are expected to be formally dressed during office hours.

For male staff, the dress code would be shirt and formal trousers. For female staff, the dress code would be saree/salwar/formal trousers. Jeans, T-Shirts and trainers are only allowed on Saturday, when a less formal dress code is applied. "

Hi Veena,

We follow the following policy in our company:

Men: Formal trousers, full/half shirts, leather shoes (Monday through Thursday).
Friday: Business casuals (no sandals).

Women: Salwar Kameez, sarees, formal trousers and shirts or kurtis.
Friday: Business casuals (jeans, t-shirt).

All employees should wear their identity badges on their person to ensure security and avoid trespassers within the office premises.

Hi,

It would generally depend on what kind of retail you are into. I know of companies that have casual dressing for their office because the employees would typically be designers or marketers. This is mostly companies that are into casual apparel retail. However, it is important for the shop floor to either have standard uniforms or at least a theme, like black and denim, or formals for a formal wear store. Hope this helps.

Dress code varies from company to company and the culture adopted by them. For example, in one company in Muscat, the dress code specifically mentioned wearing a saree. It cannot be generalized but depends on the organization.

I have gone through all your responses. They are really helpful. However, I would like to know what things should be kept in mind while making a dress code policy, as there are now different types of patterns in jeans and sleeveless clothes. The policy should not become too rigid nor should it be too liberal.
