Hi all,

I need your guidance. I heard about a course or diploma mainly meant for students who have completed their MBA. This is in "Training and Development" in Delhi by HRD, but I don't have full information. Can anybody tell me or provide me with information about the same?

Neha

Hi Neha,

I'm not sure which course you have heard of, but I know of one course in Training and Development offered by the Indian Society of Training & Development (ISTD). This diploma is open for graduates, postgraduates, and experienced professionals as well. It is of one-year duration, two semesters, and then 6 months to submit a project.

You can find more on the site istd.com. I hope it will be of help.

Cheers,
Archna

Hi!

You are going in the right direction. This course, namely 'Diploma in Training & Development,' is one of its kind in Asia under distance education, and I myself find it really very useful for the professionals who are interested in T&D. The course is of 18 months duration. The entire course fee at present is Rs. 10,000, which is going to be increased by Rs. 2500 as decided in the board meeting last night. Next week, an advertisement will be published for fresh registration. You can check that and get enrolled; it's a good course and adds value to your profile.

ISTD phone number is: 011-26867710; contact persons are Col. NK Saxena/SM Singh. In case you need further help, don't hesitate.

With best wishes,
Alok

Hi Alok,

Thank you for the info. Have you completed this diploma? I am currently pursuing my MBA and am in the 3rd semester. I just want to know if I can enroll for this January session, or do I need to finish my MBA first before enrolling. I am really interested in Training & Development, and of course, these kinds of diplomas will add value to my profile as well.

Thank you once again for the guidance.

Hi Neha,

Nice to know your keen interest in training and development. I have already completed this course and am currently pursuing a PhD in the field of knowledge management.

I think you can manage to enroll yourself in the course in the next session and mention that you are awaiting results for your MBA qualification. What I mean to say is that in the present scenario, the benefits are as follows:

1. By following the above, you will have extra time to complete this course as you will start early before completing your MBA (one can complete the course in a maximum of 4 years).

2. I also did the same thing while pursuing my MBA; I started it and used one extra semester with no effect on my continuity of education. In distance education, it is not mentioned on the certificate when you started the course. 😄 But I got enrolled based on my engineering degree, so if you already possess a professional degree like BE, LLB, etc., it is very easy to get enrolled.

So, just contact the ISTD office and get things clarified.

3. They are increasing fees after every semester, so early enrollment can lead to some savings that can be used for the procurement of relevant materials like books, etc.

Regards,

Alok

PS - These are my personal suggestions only.

Is there any classes or guidance from ISTD organization for ISTD studies? Is it viable to clear the papers easily and in the 1st attempt? Are these papers theory or objective? If I want any guidance on the subjects of ISTD material, whom to approach? Only studying the material is enough or do I need to refer to outside books? Thanks Alok Goel for all your inputs, but if you can help me out on this, I can go for early enrollment as you suggested. Thanks and waiting for your reply. You can get back to me by replying on citehr or on prajakta.mahajan@yahoo.com. Thanks a million. 😊

Hi!

ISTD papers are experiential-based, which means that in every exam, there are at least 3-4 case studies. So, if you are familiar or working in the field of training/HRD, one can easily get through the exams. Course material is provided by ISTD, which is okay, but as most of the students are MBAs, they already possess some material, and after all, the internet is there to sort out any problem.

ISTD has 37 chapters spread across the country. In Delhi, ISD conducts contact classes on a monthly basis, which are really very helpful, and in all the metros, the local chapters also arrange for contact classes.

For subjects like e-training and evaluation of training, it is recommended to procure a few books on your own for a clear understanding of the concepts.

Hope I have answered the questions in your mind. If there is anything further, please let me know for my next post.

With best wishes,
Alok

Alok, you are really being very helpful to me. Your guidance is giving me support in making my decision of joining ISTD. Thanks a lot. I think I have your cell number; I will give you a call for any further support from you. Sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you.

Thank you, Alok. I will do my enrollment as soon as possible but can only join the January batch as June has already passed. I will call up there as soon as possible. Tell me one more thing, is it really tough to crack these papers... hehehe. Anyways, thanks for the assistance.

Hi Neha,

Some universities I know offer the course of MHRD (MBA-HRD), which specializes in training and development. The universities offering this program are:

1. Awdhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa (M.P.)
2. ICFAI University, Hyderabad (A.P.)
3. Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur (M.P.)
4. Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi

I hope this information helps you. Best wishes for the future.

Hi!

ISTD Diploma is a kind of super specialization, and efforts are on to get the nomenclature changed by the Ministry of HRD to 'Post Graduate Diploma in Training & Development'. This course has its standing, especially in the training fraternity. Secondly, ISTD has linkages with international bodies like the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) and is a founding member of IFTDO (International Federation of Training & Development Organizations).

I think you have got the message.

Alok,
Thanks for the information. I was looking out for more specifics. I was told that if you have 2.5+ years of experience, then it's for 18 months Distance learning; otherwise, it's a full-time course. How good is the institute?
alokgoel
Hi!

For graduates with a few years (minimum 2 years) of industry experience in the area of HR/Training, enrollment may be granted. This is an 18-month course under distance education mode and can be completed within 4 years of registration. Other details are already mentioned on this thread.

With best wishes,

Hi Alok,

I have just enrolled in the June batch for the ISTD. When can I expect my reading material? Also, how should I go about completing my course? The information is very sketchy in various places, though I could foresee some good benefits from the program; hence, I enrolled myself.
