When Is the Best Time to Apply for Factory Act Registration During Construction?

Please tell me what will be the right time to apply for Factory Act registration. My factory is in the construction phase. :)

My organization is going to launch a new unit, and I want to know the formalities for setting up a new factory. Specifically, I am interested in knowing which department I should apply for registration, other than the industries and inspector of factories.

Timing for Factory Registration

This is the right time to apply for the registration of a factory. When you submit your drawings for the factory layout and building elevation, there is some scope for adjustments from a safety perspective. The Factory Inspector can guide you. Once the building is ready, if they advise changing a wall or a beam, it becomes difficult. If we don't follow their advice, the registration remains pending, the license cannot be issued, and we are unable to start production.

Apart from this, you will need to apply for consent under the Air Pollution and Water Pollution Act to the Pollution Board.

If you have more than 20 workers/employees, you will have to apply for coverage to the PF and ESI Department (provided your management wants to cover employees from day one).
