When Is the Best Time to Apply for Factory Act Registration During Construction?

Please tell me what will be the right time to apply for Factory Act registration. My factory is in the construction phase. :)

My organization is going to launch a new unit, and I want to know the formalities for setting up a new factory. Specifically, I am interested in knowing which department I should apply for registration, other than the industries and inspector of factories.

This is the right time for applying for registration of a factory. This is because when you submit your drawings for the factory layout, building elevation, there is some scope from a safety angle. The Factory Inspector can guide you. Once the building is ready, and if they advise to change this wall or that beam, it is difficult. If we don't do it the way they advise, the registration remains pending, thereby the license cannot be issued, and finally, we are not able to start production.

Apart from this, you will have to apply for consent under the Air Pollution and Water Pollution Act to the Pollution Board.

If you have more than 20 workers/employees, you will have to apply for coverage to the PF and ESI Department (provided your management wants to cover employees from day one).
