Dear Geeta,
You have to avoid this immediately otherwise it will spoil the image of organisation. As a HR it is Better to send a general mail to all employees stating about the workplace etiquette or you can send impressing good thoughts to avoid such gossips.
i hope this would work.
All the best!

Yes, you can give them warning letter, to break office decipline and spoile work coulter. You can also follow the "Model Standing Order" version for your reference about which field you going to give them warning. Meanwhile you engage them into some tactice ful work which need lot of brain envolment ask them to prepare projects upon communication and ask them to work with team, thus they start to compit with opponenet each group and it will somehow break there gossipe tendency (This is a very old politics works any where any time this politics called Brake and Rule), but be clear never let them know that you are playing game with them.
I think it will help you a lot by giving them team projects and also if possible announce prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Hi Geetha,

I read the whole thread and what I can understand is that though they have work, they still continue doing gossip. And I am sure some how these cracks are able to complete their work and meet the targets.

I previously worked in a company of size 115, I too faced a similar problem there. To be frank, stopping employees from doing gossip is quite difficult. You will have different mindsets and hence different perceptions. Some might listen to your words, some might not.

Do the following and find out how it works:

1. Find out how supportive the PMs are to this group.
2. Find out to which category these employees fall in : Stars, Prospective Stars, Avg performers, or FIREWOODS. And find out how far there absence will affect the organization / business.
3. If this group comprises of TLs too then I guess you need to play some mind game in creating a difference between TLs first. Once they get separated, automatically you will that their respective team will also show some difference.
4. Take frequent rounds during the shift hours and make sure your body langauage speaks more. I used to do this often. I used to just stand for 5 mins and watch everyone. I used to just enter in to the production floor without anyone noticing me. Trust me, those who waste their and others time, will not even be able to look into your eyes. And they wil get a msg that MGMT is noticing them.
5. During Appraisal keep a check on all this too.

And of course as you mentioned tat MGMT is also not so supportive, you will have to play your own mind games. Hope my points will give you some idea to tackle with your problem.

Thank you all with your valuable feedback.
Here the major problem is the Sr.Tl and developers are more than friends and have created a separate group all together. Where as a TL they dont realize that what they are doing is wrong. The Management has lot of work apart from this. Correcting this can never be on their list. no one out here is scared of the Management too.
As far as the Games and presentation is concerned, 'Developers are Busy' is the response what i get from their Management team, and should not be involved in these gaming sessions. The developers them selves hardly take any interest in this.
