Dear Anjali,
Hi!!
Telephonic interview is basically conducted to screen candidate and decrease the cost and time involved in recruitment process. A small telephonic interview can help you decide whether to move on or not.
The questions that can be asked are:
1) Present Employer
2) Present Designation
3) Present Job profile
4) Profile that he would like to pursue / area of his interest
5) Reason for change
6) Present CTC
After that, if you feel that the candiadte suits your requirement then discuss the profile that you are offering and check for his interest for the same.
All these questions are valid for a intial telephonic screening round. Incase its a technical/final interview then probably more insightful questins need to be asked.
