Feeling Stuck: Should I Start Working Now or Wait for My Semester IV Results?

suchi_law82
Hi, I am a second-year law student from Mumbai, also pursuing my PGDM in marketing, and I am also an economics honors graduate! I am a bit confused as to whether I should start working now or wait for my Semester IV results before looking for a job in a law firm. If so, what kind of job should I start with? Please advise me as I have no clue at all, and I am feeling quite depressed about it. 😢

Gentleman,

You have a sound background with:
- Honours in Economics
- Management Diploma
- Second year in Law.

Complete your studies in Law.
Take an aptitude test to determine your leaning and your interests.
Based on that result, discuss with a career counselor if you wish to get a second opinion.

Based on a brief, it seems you are leaning towards a commerce role such as company law, commercial law, patent law, etc.

So, join a law firm, even if it is a low rung, and gain at least 2-3 years of experience. At this stage, experience is critical.

Once you have pocketed this experience, you should review the career plan. Then you have the opportunity to:
- Continue with a law firm as an attorney in your specialized field
- Join a corporation as a legal executive
- Start a private practice of your choice.

Good luck.

Suchi,

My apologies, young lady. I could not determine whether the name was male or female. Mulla and Mulla is a fairly well-known law firm. You should choose a similar organization.
