Pay Scale refers to the Basic Pay representing a particular designation with annual increments of pay. A scale of 7450-225-11500 represents the following.
A beginner will get a basic pay of Rs. 7450, and he will get an increment of Rs. 225 in the next year, thus making his basic pay Rs. 7675 (7450+225). In the third year, his basic pay will be Rs. 7900 (7675+225) and so on until the basic reaches Rs. 11500. In pay fixation, depending upon service, the basic will be fixed in between. An employee with 10 years of service will be given 10 increments, and the basic will be fixed at Rs. 9700.
The scale represents the basic pay only, and Dearness Allowance, HRA, CCA, etc., will be taken as a percentage of the basic fixed.
