Hi Neha,

Best practices cannot be tailor-made; they have to evolve from within the organization. However, any practice that you devise to increase competence, commitment, and improve culture-building can be termed as an HR practice. This can take the form of a norm, rule, system, or some examples of practices:

1. Some companies have deductions for latecoming, while others view it as an odd practice.

2. Employee referral policy.

3. Wishing employees on their birthdays, anniversaries, etc., by the HR Head.

4. Providing health facilities/babysitting facilities.

5. Implementing a continuous learning and development-oriented Performance Management System (PMS).

6. Offering good employee services.

7. Providing allowances if an employee attends the office on their birthday.

8. Having a company internal magazine covering all the happenings in your company.

9. Regular training and development.

10. Implementing job rotations/internal department transfers, such as shifting service employees to Research & Development based on their performance.

There are many more practices that you can devise based on the organization's culture.

Hi Neha,

Here are some of the best practices followed in HR during the reference check process. Employees are requested to provide the landline numbers of their previous two employers, as well as the board numbers of the team lead or manager they reported to. These numbers are verified by visiting the official website of the organization where the employee worked.

HR contacts the HR department of the previous employers to validate feedback regarding performance and conduct. They also confirm the contact details of the team lead/managers provided by the employee.

HR also verifies the roles in which these individuals were working during the employee's tenure.

Subsequently, HR approaches the team lead/manager to conduct the reference check, comparing feedback from both the HR department and the team leads.

Additionally, HR contacts the Accounts Department of the former employers and sends the salary slips to the Accounts Manager or Executive for verification. They also request the employee to provide bank statements from the past few months showing the salary deposits.

Hi Vinay,

My name is Lalitha, and I am working as an HR executive. In your last message to Neha, the phrase "employee referral policies" was mentioned, which I didn't understand. Could you please provide me with a brief description of that term?

Thanks,
Lalitha

Another best practice that I can share is sending a welcome letter to the employee and his/her parents to be a part of the family in the organization. The company sent a letter to the parents as well, making them proud of their child. A great thing to do! It's all about people :)

Hi All,

People sometimes embellish their profiles to secure better jobs and higher salaries. When we recruit individuals, are we selecting them based on their profiles or their actual skills and talents? In my four years of experience in HR, I have encountered candidates who misrepresented their profiles but turned out to be exceptional employees in terms of their work and behavior.

The question that arises is whether we should identify such discrepancies during the interview process itself. Do you agree with this approach?

Hi Lalitha,

Employee referral means whenever there is an opening in your present company and you advertise it within the company. Your employees provide you with some profiles, and if those profiles are selected, you will give them some amount. This practice is called employee referral.

Dear all Members,

The best HR practices depend on the culture of the company. Some companies follow certain norms, while others adopt different practices that benefit the employees as a whole. Regardless of the case, the ultimate aim is to ensure that employees feel happy both at their workplace and in their homes, staying comfortably. A sense of positive energy needs to be fostered by promoting healthy practices among the organization's employees.

Even visiting sick or injured employees as a welfare officer, or attending an employee's marriage, shows a great deal of respect for the HR department or the employer.

A good article, and thanks to the writer.

Hi Vinay,

I am working with a US-based IT company. My organization has asked me to prepare my own JD (Job Description) 😢. Initially, the activities I was handling are now streamlined and transferred to my subordinate. Can you please help me out to find out the areas which I can take up and initiate.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Shweta 🙂
