Can anybody tell me what is the status of considering 1st May 2010 as a holiday, its legal status as per the labor ministry of West Bengal and India. I work in a private, big, non-government corporate setup. Since the opening of the company 5+ years back, 1st May has been considered as a paid holiday. This year, it has been totally omitted from the holiday list. Moreover, 15th August has been offered as a holiday that falls on Sunday! Can holidays be declared on Sundays?
