Can I Use My Unused Leave to Shorten My Notice Period When Resigning?

Hi,

I have an enormous amount of balance leaves as I have not been taking them the entire year. But now that I want to put my papers down, can I negotiate my notice period against my balance leaves? In an indirect discussion with my HR, I was informed that I can encash my balance leaves but will have to serve the notice period, or else I will have to pay to buy my release for not serving the notice period.

Please advice.

Hi,

You need to refer to your company's policy regarding the treatment of accumulated leaves upon resignation. If nothing is mentioned about this, you can negotiate with HR for an adjustment of leave against the notice period.
