Seeking Career Growth in HR: Should I Choose a Part-Time MBA or SAP HR Course?

Hi Friends,

Right now, I am working as an HR Executive in a software firm. I have completed my B.E. in Computer Engineering. Now, my question is, I want better growth in this field. My boss suggested that I should pursue a part-time MBA in HR, but it's not feasible for me. Another option is to do the SAP HR Course from Siemens. However, I only have 6 months of experience, and I lack substantial knowledge about HR. What should I do? Please guide me.

First of all very congratulations for your graduation and first job in HR Dept.
Its very good for S/W organisation that HR who is having technical knowledge and having knowledge of recent technologies.
See, you are having the knowledge of technical things but as you are working in HR Dept, you should know the HR insights.
Like-
What is HR?
How HR is imp in today's global scenario?
What are the functions of HR?
Like this many more---
You should be aware of these things. Therefore my suggestion would be you must join any Part Time Business School (Part time MBA Course), where they will provide you knowledge of HR.
If you are going to SAP HR module, I think it's too early to go to SAP HR Module.
But it's your career, opt the way/option whichever you think best!

Actually your suggestion is very gud but i cant do MBA because am married so i cant do this IS THERE ANY SHORT TERM COURSE RELATEDTO HR. please if you knw then telll me

If you don't want to pursue a part-time MBA, then consider distance learning. Distance learning is the only option meant for working men and women. So, I think, forget all the excuses you have and join a distance learning course.

There are many institutes that provide distance learning. You just need to explore the internet; all the information you need is just a click away.

Currently, in which city are you working? I know a couple of institutes in Pune.

First, you should have at least 2 years of experience in core HR before moving forward with the SAP HR model. This is because SAP is all about the implementation of HR processes in a well-structured manner. Therefore, you need to have a good understanding of all aspects related to it.

I have read so many people on this site inquiring about or advising others to complete a SAP HR course. In the global HR world, this is not a qualification or certification that enhances someone's knowledge in the HR field. This is merely a course that instructs a SAP HR Module user on the functions.

While HR software and an HRIS are very important, it does not lead or direct an organization's strategy. It is just one of many methods of collecting, storing, and analyzing data. It is by no means a way to advance your career, at least not globally. I have no SAP or other certification for HR software or HRIS systems, yet I have worked for companies managing their HR in Australia, the Philippines, India, the UK, and the USA.

If you are serious about developing your HR career and knowledge, I would advise that you ensure you are working in a company that supports your development, with a mentor that you can learn from, and then enhance your practical experience with a solid foundations course in HR, with future studies in more specific areas of HR.

HR is a good field; don't lose it. If you have no time to do an MBA in HR, you can use CiteHR site and Google to learn about Human Resources. However, don't quit your job as many companies require an MBA in HR degree. If you have enough knowledge in HR, you can drive your career yourself without a degree. Many people are working in HR without a degree but with knowledge in the field. Keep going! 🙂

I feel it's too early for you to pursue a SAP Course in HR since it requires a minimum of 1 to 2 years of domain experience. So, I believe you can always think of going for distance education (correspondence). There are lots of universities providing that, with the frontrunner being Symbiosis.

It is more advisable to go for a distance learning course. In Mumbai, K.J. Somaiya and Jamnalal Bajaj both offer distance learning programs. You can just go through their sites and find out.

If you really want to continue your career in HR field and make a good career in HR, my sincere advice is to do an MBA in HR. Many companies prefer MBA candidates in HR, and an MBA with HR experience will give you more openings in HR, whether it's through a regular program or distance learning.

The first question that you need to ask yourself is, "Is HR the right profile for me? Do I want a career in HR?"

If the answer is yes and you are unable to pursue a diploma or a professional qualification in HR, then look at the kind of work you are doing. Can you become an extremely competent person in that profile? Is there a mentor who can help you to grow in the organization?

Find out what topics are taught in HR classes. Pick up as much knowledge as you can, like someone with a professional HR degree or is pursuing one. The Internet has enough info to make you a great HR executive.
