Salary Increases in India: What Percentage Raise Can You Expect This Year?

trupti.khare
Hi,

Can anyone provide the percentage of annual salary increment in India?
vishakaguru
Hi Trupti,

As Jaipal said, you can follow the same. The increment should be given as per benchmarking with other companies of the same designation, performance, self-learning, current project objectives, and future project worth and importance. You can even provide a 100% hike. This is the proposal to the management regarding employees, based on the data provided by HODs.

Hi,

If you examine the trend of the last year, it goes as follows:
- Minimum = 12%
- Average = 15%
- Maximum = 20% (+2% to 5% additional for top performers)

I hope this information will meet the objective.

Hi all,

If we were to look at salary increments of 2008, don't you think the average hike has come down to 8-9% due to the recession?
Sagar Umrikar
Dear all,

The salary increase for the year 2008-09 will depend on the recession rate. It may have to be lowered.

Thank you.

No, these figures are barring the IT sector. For the IT sector, it was slightly higher and is as follows:

Min - 14% to 16%
Avg - 18% to 22%
Max - 27% to 32% (with an additional 2% to 4% for top performers)

The variation is due to the company size, performance, as well as the ranking of the company. For companies like Infosys, Wipro, Sapient, and Microsoft, the percentages would be slightly higher. This is followed by HCL, NIIT with slightly lower percentages, and then slightly unknown companies and so on...

Right now, the IT sector, specifically the services sector, is also experiencing a downturn in many mid-size companies. It is around 8-12%.

Does the trend vary for the healthcare sector as well? Will there be any difference for professionals and employees within the same healthcare...

I think it all depends upon the company's profitability. The normal rate ranges from 10% to 30%. However, when conducting an appraisal of any employee, it is necessary to check their profile, work, and importance in the organization. Analyze how much we can provide and then come to a conclusion.

Hi,

Please let me know if companies are planning to give increments this year despite the recession and cost-cutting measures.
