How Can We Revitalize HR Development for a Mature Workforce Facing Monotony?

Hi,

I need some new ideas for improving HRD. The average age group of the employees in the organization is around 45. There are no youngsters around. These employees are well settled in life but due to the monotonous work, they are a team of bored people. The working hours are also long, around 10 hours (minimum).

Please help.

Hi Jasmine,

A warm welcome to the forum! 😊

I would recommend that you conduct a climate/organizational survey or gather feedback from employees on the corporate culture. Based on these insights, one can strategize and generate new ideas for HRD that are meaningful, rather than just superficial exercises or a sugar-coated approach to the real issues. The formats for such exercises are available in this forum. Please use the quick search tool on the top left.

Considering your inputs, one should consider the following:

1. Hiring young or fresh talent
2. Time management training sessions
3. Developing attitudes and soft skills; whether a glass is half full or half empty is a matter of one's approach to life
4. Work-life balance, etc.

Many more ideas can be shared by my colleagues if you provide more information on the real issues faced by your organization.

Regards,
Rajat

Hello Jasmine,

Put your mind and efforts into the following suggestions in consultation with your authorities:

1. Try to reduce working hours to 8-9 hours.
2. Consider implementing job rotation.
3. Organize cultural meetings regularly.
4. Arrange staff meetings frequently.
5. Communicate with employees to understand their reasons. Consider using a questionnaire.
6. Plan in-house and external training programs.
7. Fill vacancies with younger employees where needed.
8. Engage with elders for clarifications, doubts, or problems to make them feel consulted and valued as part of the system.

I am confident that with your dedicated efforts, success will follow. Best wishes always.
