Strategies for Reentering HR After an Employment Gap: Expert Advice and Solutions

Dear All,

Hi. I am very much confused. Please reply to this email. I am looking for opportunities in HR. I have 4 years of experience in HR handling a Generalist HR profile with an IT company. I left my job in June 2007 as I met with a car accident and had a spine fracture. I was advised complete bed rest as I was unable to move.

Now, I am fit and fine and have started to continue my career in HR. However, I am struggling to find a job in HR due to a 1.5-year gap. So, friends, I request suggestions from all of you on how I can continue my career in HR. I want to pursue an MBA, but due to financial constraints, it is currently not feasible.

You can opt for a correspondence course in HR (Part-Time) and at the same time, you can also try for a good job opening. As you have mentioned that you have 4 years of experience earlier, why should you miss your career? My suggestion would be, again, if you are looking for an MNC, then you need to prepare yourself fully. You should also have a doctor's certificate, which is very essential for an MNC company, as you had a break of 1+ years. "All the Best" :)

You might want to consider enrolling in a certification course from an authorized training institute for SAP HCM Certification. This way, you can kickstart your new career in HCM and become a technical expert. It is a highly lucrative job opportunity. I encourage you to pursue this path. Remember, opt for an authorized training institute affiliated with SAP India.

With 4 years of experience in HR, you are sure to find a suitable opening in HR. You just have to be a little patient. The gap in your career is not of much relevance because of your genuine reason. You just need to communicate the reason for the gap to your prospective employer properly.

In the meanwhile, you can pursue an MBA through a distance course to enhance your skills in the said area. Hope you have a great career ahead.

No organization can reject you on the basis of a gap, since you have a very genuine reason. Probably you are not trying the right sources. As far as MBA is concerned, for now, go for a correspondence one-year PG diploma in HR from ICFAI. It is not too expensive as well. Look out for good consultants and be in regular touch with them. If you want, I can give you the contact numbers of some really good consultants.

Hi, Register with placement consultants specifying your experience. Highlight your strengths in HR. Specialize in that area.

If you want to pursue an MBA for your career, do it full-time at a reputed institution. If you are only seeking an MBA degree certificate, consider distance learning from any university.

So never say that you are confused. Take stock of your own core competence, your academic achievements, and your own interests, and decide which field to enter.
