Standing Order is the official document that regulates employment and the relationship between employees and the employer. It is governed by The Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946. According to the Act, it is mandatory for establishments employing not less than 100 employees to draft a standing order and have it certified by an officer not below the rank of Assistant Labour Commissioner. The draft is prepared in consultation with the employees or their representatives. Therefore, employees are supposed to follow the rules and orders outlined in the standing orders. Any provision in the standing orders can be amended by mutual consent, but once certified, it will be in force for at least six months. A draft standing order is available within the Standing Order Act itself. For easy reference, I have also posted one on my blog. Please follow the link to access it and modify it according to your needs.
