Standing Order is the official document which regulates employment and the relationship between employees and the employer. It is governed by The Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946. As per the Act it is mandatory for those establishments which employ not less than 100 employees to draft a standing order and get it certified by an officer not below the rank of Asst. Labour Commissioner. The draft is prepared in consultation with the employees/ representatives of the employees. As such, the employees are suppose to follow the rules/ orders framed in the standing orders. Any provision in the standing orders shall be amended by mutual consent but once certified, it will be in force at least for six months.
