Does It Come Under HR Responsibility.........Please Advice Seniors

nancy567
Hi all,

I would like to know in an IT sector, is it the responsibility of HR to maintain a first aid kit or any medicines in the office for the employees?

I am curious to find out if other IT companies implement such measures in their offices.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Nancy 😛

We maintain a First Aid Box for every floor in our organization (Total Strength: 372, with 90 members per floor).

Hi Venkatesh,

Thanks for responding. Are you working in a software company? Our total strength is only 30. What medicines do you maintain in the first aid kit?

Thanks,
Nancy

Most of the medium-sized organizations will not have HSE personnel or a department. In that case, HR will assume their main tasks, such as providing and maintaining first aid kits or conducting some sort of safety awareness workshops.

Thanks

Hi,

I work for an IT-enabled company with an employee strength of 150, and yes, we do maintain a First Aid box at the reception area. It should comprise all basic medicines, etc. Yes, HR would be responsible if anything relates to people. :-P

Hi Joshi,

What are the basic medicines you people maintain in your company? Please let me know.

Hi,

Please find below a list of basic medicines to keep in a first aid box:

Pain Relievers

Aspirin (e.g., Aspro Clear), paracetamol (e.g., Panadol), or ibuprofen (e.g., Nurofen) can be bought over the counter. They come in different forms, including soluble tablets, ordinary tablets, or suppositories, and can relieve headache, muscle pain, toothache, and period pain. Aspirin should not be given to children under 16 years of age unless advised by a doctor.

Fever

Fever is most commonly caused by viruses that cannot be treated with antibiotics. Although antibiotics can be purchased without a prescription in some countries, they should be avoided. If antibiotics are necessary, consult a GP. A doctor can prescribe the appropriate antibiotics or other medication.

Sunburn

Include sunblock in your first-aid kit to apply before sun exposure. Also, have cream and lotion for post-sunbathing use. Consult a pharmacist for advice on the appropriate sun protection factor (SPF) level.

Insect Bites

Antihistamines and soothing lotions like calamine are effective in relieving itching from insect bites or stings.

Cuts and Grazes

The following items are useful for treating minor cuts and grazes:

- Sticking plasters
- Cotton wool
- Safety pins
- A gauze bandage and supportive bandages
- Antiseptic lotion or saline to clean wounds.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
