Understanding Notice Period: Employee Resignation Date vs. Employer Acceptance Date

rastogi.pooja
Dear All,

I have a query regarding the notice period. If the employee gives his notice on 1st September 2008, and according to the company policy, the notice period is 2 months, his notice period will be completed on 31st October. Everything was fair and clear from the employee's side, but I have a confusion about from which date his notice period will start - the date he gave his resignation or the date the employer accepted his resignation. For example, if the employee gave his resignation on 1st September and the employer accepted it on 15th September.

Please clarify the confusion.

Pooja

Pooja,

The notice period starts from the date on which the employee submitted his resignation.
