I am extremely sorry for not mentioning that I am doing a "comparison of operation management," focusing solely on TATA STEEL and SAIL (both Indian companies, with the former being the world's 6th largest and the latter a government undertaking).

Could you please advise me on the areas I should concentrate on and suggest topics that could provide a solid foundation for my project? I would be extremely grateful for your suggestions.

I am very much thankful to you for your valuable suggestion. I have collected the profiles of the companies and the major products and technologies they have been using to increase their revenues. I will be visiting the companies very soon.

I want to know what sort of information I should collect from these companies. I need to calculate how the company is managing its operations or how the company is using the tools of "OPERATION MANAGEMENT", so that I can compare between the two companies and establish a conclusion.

Please provide me with more information about yourself and your knowledge of OM. Also, kindly share details about the companies and their operations. Have you conducted a literature survey to develop any hypotheses and a conceptual framework for your research? Have you determined the research methodology you will use, etc?

I am a B.Tech student of Computer Science. I have studied Operations Management as a part of our curriculum in one of our semesters. Two people are working on this project - my father works for TATA STEEL, and my partner's father works for SAIL.

We are preparing a questionnaire to gather information and data on topics like new product development, inventory, capacity planning, organizational growth, new technologies used, material handling, maintenance, quality control, revenue increase, challenges faced by the company, etc.

What else should we add to our questionnaire? In the end, we aim to identify the key strategies that enabled TATA STEEL to become one of the top ten companies globally compared to SAIL.

We are collecting data from sources such as the internet, the company's annual reports, and questionnaires. We will be visiting the companies soon and, for this purpose, we are preparing a questionnaire to gather information from the employees.

Thank you for the prompt response. I wish you had provided all this information at the outset to save on the correspondence. Please see the following site Pearson - Introduction to Operations and Supply Chain Management, 2/E, which gives the chapter headings of a book I followed when I taught MBA for Manufacturing Management undergraduates and MBAs.

Please check if you have missed any key issues, such as supply chain problems. However, one must be cautious not to go overboard, considering the time constraints. Since this is only an undergraduate project rather than a master's degree one, it appears that you have covered a majority of the issues.

I am also working on a similar project. The only difference is that I need to interview a real operations manager and elaborate on the insights gathered from the interview in the paper. The questions can cover various aspects of operations management, particularly focusing on supply chain and other areas such as productivity, location strategy, and inventory management.

I would greatly appreciate some assistance with formulating questions for the questionnaire.
