Transitioning from Army to HR: Seeking Guidance on Resume and Career Path Options

joeyogesh
Dear Seniors,

I am an Army Officer with 20 years of service. I plan to switch my career and join the HR field in the near future. I have prepared my resume and am attaching it for your perusal. Please guide me regarding:

1. Any amendments required?
2. Is it suitable for the HR field?
3. At what level of job opportunity (Manager/Senior Manager/AVP/VP) should I look out for?

Any other assistance is gladly welcome.

Thanks and Regards,

Yogesh Joshi.

Dear Sir,

Firstly, thank you for your kind service, which has kept us safe. I have reviewed your CV, which is quite impressive. There is only one thing I would like to mention regarding the objective you stated for Middle or Senior roles. Kindly consider mentioning Senior Level, as it will demonstrate your confidence.

Hello Munib,

Thank you very much for your invaluable and prompt inputs. However, as I mentioned to you, I am not really interested in security firms, having spent my entire career in the forces. I am more interested in people and resource management since I feel that my strong point is my ability to gel with nearly all kinds and types of people. I have also found out that I have a flair for training and enjoy it a lot.

Thanks once again, and we will keep in touch.

Regards,

Yogesh Joshi

I completely agree with you that you should join the serving team rather than security. You have done enough of that work for 20 years. I think you should join some HR recruitment team where they will undergo rigorous training for the rest of their life rather than their future.

Hi, I'm doing my engineering final year. I would like to step into HR. Are there job opportunities in Chennai for freshers to get into the HR department? Please do help me.

Lt. Col. Joshi,

I currently serve as the Head of HR in a Structural Engineering Company. I began my career in the Infantry, and I agree with your perspective on not pursuing a career in security. Upon reviewing your resume, I suggest tailoring it to a more civilian-friendly language. For instance, under the training section, you have listed numerous trainings for various cadres, which may not be easily understood by individuals outside the military.

I recommend sending your resume to Maj. Gen. Sandhu (retired from the Armoured Corps), a highly respected individual within the Anand Group. This group is well-known in the automotive component manufacturing sector across India, and they often hire former army officers for HR roles. You can reach Maj. Gen. Sandhu at [Login to view]. Before joining this British MNC, I held the position of Head of HR in one of the Anand Group companies.

Best of luck.
