Is My Distance MBA the Key to Transitioning from Recruitment to Core HR in a Big Company?

Presently, I am working in a consultancy in the recruitment process. Currently, I am doing my MBA in distance mode at Madurai Kamaraj University. Would this be useful for my career? In the future, are there any possibilities for me to move into core HR in a big organization?

It is important to note that in distance education, institutions and universities' reputations carry weight. Institutions like ICFAI and Symbiosis rank highly in distance education programs.

Having an MBA while working is always preferred by corporations.

Regarding your career, transitioning into core HR is possible but may be challenging without prior experience. It is recommended to start in the recruitment division of an organization and gradually move into core HR as opportunities arise. MBA is a professional course. Distance learning doesn't help much as practical things are not taken care of. Imagine a doctor learning an operation via distance learning; the same applies. There are many live projects to be undertaken and so on.

If your work is a priority, then you can choose a one-year executive MBA course or a part-time one from a recognized college.

Dear all,

Please note that correspondence MBA is not useful. I have already joined ICFAI, but they are not cooperative in your MBA program. After the 1st semester when I had not received my course material, I contacted the local branch office (Sec-18, Noida). However, instead of helping, they replied that I have to contact the university directly. The only way to contact the university is through email. I emailed them many times but did not receive any reply. Then, I stopped the payment from my bank and informed the university not to deposit the cheques until the matter was resolved. Without contacting me, they submitted the cheque, resulting in a bounced cheque. Now, they want to take legal action against me.

So, I want to tell all of you to please decide carefully before joining because you could lose money, time, and encounter unwanted problems.

There is another university in Mumbai that provides the facility of part-time MBA that is unusually faculty-oriented. You can try out Narsee Monjee University. Undoubtedly, you guys will benefit.

I beg to differ from this opinion. An MBA is indeed a professional course, but there are only a handful of institutes where real practical learning is taught, such as XLRI, ISB, etc. If one wants to pursue a full-time MBA, it must be through a top 10 Business School; otherwise, there is no significant difference between a part-time or full-time course. In my five years of experience, I have observed that competencies and acumen can get someone a good job rather than a degree alone. Even if someone has a great academic qualification, he or she may not be able to retain a good position without practical knowledge.

I agree with Mehul. For working professionals, a part-time MBA is just the gate pass. Your job experience will be valued. Rather, a part-time MBA will help you to relate to your job function. So it's the best way to learn while working.
