Employee Engagement & Diwali Celebration Ideas for Fun Activities and Managing High Shrinkage

nrduttaa
Hi all,

I am working for a BPO that is voice-based, thus employees get bored of accepting calls. To motivate them and keep them happy, we have organized many fun-at-work activities which they enjoyed a lot. However, nowadays, I feel they are saturated with the same kind of games. I request you all to suggest some innovative and funny games or activities that can be celebrated on the floor to bring back the same level of energy.

Apart from this, we want to celebrate Diwali in the office in a special way that everyone would enjoy. Our employee strength is 600, and due to the festive season, there is a probability of unscheduled leaves which could lead to high shrinkage. As an ER employee, I need to take measures to control this high shrinkage that may occur because of Diwali.

Please suggest effective strategies that can help in this situation. Your prompt assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Neha

Thank you, Lata, for your inputs,

Recently, we hosted a major event as Mr. & Ms. Organisation, so we won't be able to repeat the same activity for this occasion. We have already planned to have traditional wear as the outfit for that day but aim to celebrate the festival for three to four consecutive days.

Please assist me as soon as possible since I need to begin the preparations and distribute the information in advance to generate hype.

Hi Neha,

Maybe you can add spark by having a rangoli competition.

A salad-making competition could also be a fun idea. Gather everyone in the cafeteria and have lots of salads spread out. The person who comes up with the best salad could win a prize.

Consider having different color themes for different days, such as Bollywood, traditional, all in red, very traditional, and choose the best-dressed participant.

Plan for different days dedicated to various cuisines.

Organize a cultural program where different departments can showcase their talents. Each department could be assigned a song to perform, including skits, group dances, and group songs.

Bring everyone together in the cafeteria, decorate it nicely, and also conduct a puja.

Hope these suggestions help!

Dear All,

Season's Greetings. Good methods have been posted, and I will try to implement the same in our company.

Hi all,

I have been searching for a few more events, but all were the same, like the Rangoli Competition, Kite flying, Cubical Decoration, Fancy Dress, and Diya or Thali Decoration.

We can have a one-minute game show and do it on a team basis. For example, having 4 teams and 2 to 3 1-minute game shows for each team, with scoring given. For instance, how many candles you can light with one matchstick or how big a pyramid you can make with the help of playing cards in one minute, etc. Cheering and hooting will both be allowed.

Next, we thought of having an Open talent Show where you can ask for nominations, maybe solo or in pairs or groups, for Dance, Song, or Laughter challenges, playing an instrument, or doing a mimicry. All participants will be given a small token of appreciation (could be any gift).

Next, you can divide the teams and inform them 3 to 4 days in advance that there will be a dandiya competition where on the same song all the teams will have to perform dandiya, which will be extempore, and only 20 minutes will be given to prepare. The team with better coordination and performance will be awarded.

Thanks

Quiz, treasure hunt, maximum songs over the occasion game, fact-finding about your company to get your people more interested.... These are a few. Try them out.

Neha,

Try to organize a family carnival. If your office has multiple floors, consider setting up carnival games on different floors. In a large conference room, arrange a movie screening for kids, and make it a creative event. Other ideas will naturally come along.

All the best.

Regards,
Chada Sirisha.

Hi all,

Myriad thanks to all of you for the suggestions you all have provided here. Up to now, we have already finalized the following activities:

- Rangoli Competition
- Diya Competition
- Lantern making competition
- Bollywood day/Quiz

Cultural programs will not be conducted as they are planned for the upcoming R n R function. Additionally, sweet distribution is also on the list.

If anyone can suggest some exceptional or out-of-the-box ideas, it would greatly help me. Thank you.

Hi All,

I am writing here to introduce Paintball - a novel team-gaming concept that has over time proven to be a successful enabler for corporate training.

Introduction to Paintball:

Paintball is an extremely popular training module in the United States and has only recently started evoking interest in India. Effectively paintball is a real combat game played in a field – where each player has a CO2 powered marker or gun that fires paint-filled gelatine balls called paintballs; the objective is really to do or die! While the field is laden with artifacts, bunkers and other obstacles, the objective for every player is to eliminate the other team’s members by simply marking them out and shooting the opponent with a big splotch of paint; the team is victorious only if they are able to capture the opposing team flag without being shot. A battle simulation complete with equipment and uniforms, this sport is a team game.

Corporate Trainings:

In the US, paintball based corporate training sessions are a rage. This is because paintball, in essence, combines elements of strategy, planning, team-work and leadership into one fun-filled game. It has the power to adapt – depending on the training needs – from an "Eliminator" game (where each participant of every team eliminated other team members) to a "Catch the Flag" (individual sport where each participant's goal is to take possession of the flag). All this, in a battle-like field, makes the event fun, exciting and addictive – a perfect getaway from the daily chores.

About us:

Our team spent a couple of weeks in the US – learning the ropes of this business from the top fields in California and have recently started "The Paintball Club" in India. We offer multiple gaming formats to our individuals and corporate clients. We believe the sport can be an effective training tool in areas of team-work, leadership, strategy & planning.
