Struggling with Thesis Topics: Can You Help Me Understand Performance Management Concepts?

Hi,

Please, I need your help urgently because I am confused and I can't understand: What is exactly performance management? Performance measurement? Performance appraisal? And how is the balanced scorecard related to them, and 360 feedback related to which topic?

I need your help as I have to work on my graduating thesis, and I couldn't understand these different fields... Can anyone please suggest a good topic from these three and provide me with some ideas about it or send me a completed project on it??

Hi Sara,

I can only help you understand what these are in simple words, but I'm not sure about preparing a project for it.

Performance Management - You set standards and try to maintain them throughout. It can be individual or self. When it comes to a team, it is an overall average. All the precautions and steps taken to improve the performance level of oneself or the group is Performance Management.

Performance Measurement - A detailed report maintained to help you during performance appraisals if in a group. This helps to identify strengths and areas that need improvement. 'Measurement of performance' - isn't it simple?

Performance Appraisal - It is the compensation or benefits offered for the work performed by an individual in a specified time interval (6 months/1 year). It may include promotions, salary hikes, etc.

360 Feedback - It is one of the appraisal systems used to measure performance. Here, feedback comes from every corner of the system (i.e., Lead, Manager, Client, Customer, HR). It is not commonly followed in India.

Balanced Scorecard - The balanced scorecard is a way of measuring organizational, business unit, or department success by balancing long and short-term actions, different measures of success including financial, customer, internal operations, and human resource systems & development (learning & growth). It's a way of tying strategy to measures of action.
