How Can Our HR Community Come Together to Support Those in Need?

S.Lahiri
Dear seniors,

In this forum, we share information, give beautiful PPTs, e-books, etc. – all for help. A few days back, when replying to an email here, I proposed to contribute Rs. 5-10 per member per month to help real victims (HR seniors will be the sole decision-making body). We can contribute to flood victims, the truly needy, and merit-worthy students pursuing HR, etc.

Besides enriching ourselves in terms of knowledge and skills, we can possibly extend a helping hand to a few individuals, offering them a 'smile' on their face!

What do the seniors say? Is anyone willing to take on this responsibility?

I am eager to hear responses from professionals/members!

Regards,
Lahiri, Kolkata.

Dear Lahiriji,

You may approach Charity Websites for such extracurricular activities.

The question is: how can one contribute 5-10 Rs.? There should be some medium, such as cheques, DD, or during Citehr meets.

This is not appropriate for this site. If you wish to send the begging bowl round, use a charity site.

There are many ways. However, one should prefer secured and ethical charity sites for safe transactions.

Hi Sparky,

It's fine, don't be so rude. We, as HR professionals, should not be that blunt and rude in our words.

Dear Lahiri,

Season's Greetings.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to you for reaching out. However, I would like to share my opinion on this matter. I am totally against charity that involves only donating money or other means. I believe in actively participating in the situation rather than simply providing financial assistance. Unfortunately, as we have witnessed (not in your case), some people tend to misuse relief materials and funds for personal gain, which has given me a negative perception of monetary donations or relief supplies.

My suggestion is to engage in hands-on work (in Hindi - "shram Daan") at the affected site. I am not sure how many individuals would be willing to support this idea, but I am open to the proposal. I would also like to apologize for any previous comments made. May God bless the souls of those who lost their lives in the floods.

Kind regards

Hey Sparky,

Just FYI, it's not a begging bowl; it's charity when you wholeheartedly share your earnings for a good cause. If you don't feel like it, then don't bother giving your opinion on it. Please refrain from using such immature phrases.

Hi all,

Lahiri's suggestion is praiseworthy, and we must seriously think about it and find ways to collect funds on a regular basis for the needy. I can't understand how some HR people's replies are so rude and selfish.

By the way, I am Ashok Fowdar from Mauritius. Lately, I was quite busy with some family and professional matters. Henceforth, I hope I would be able to participate actively in the HR forum.

I am the head of the HR department of a French Multinational Construction firm (COLAS) based in Mauritius, and we mainly speak French. I am married with two children and have visited Incredible India, the land of my forefathers, on two occasions. I love India and its people.

My greetings to everybody,

Ashok

I agree with Sachin. We work our life hard and are proud of every phase we face. No one pities us for what we are. It's all about your commitment to your goals. Certainly, most of them in the professional set up in CiteHR are still chasing dreams.

We have not reached a stage where we think about charity, but I know someday I will. If we do reach there, we would not be participating in CiteHR. We come here to share our views, collect a few suggestions, and tune them to our requirements.

I didn't mean anything sarcastic about the thought. Serve yourself to serve others is the policy.
