Budget-Friendly Diwali Gift Ideas for Clients in Tough Market Times?

Hi,

I am taking care of HR & Admin in a stockbroking company. Last year, we gave Diwali gifts and cards to clients. Due to the market situations, this time it won't be feasible for us to incur such expenses.

If anyone could suggest something that is reasonable and impactful, I would appreciate it.

a) Send Diwali greetings to all.
b) Only selected clients (who participated in your business growth) will be receiving Diwali gifts (e.g., crackers) this year. This will ensure a win-win situation.

You can also give wall painting (Thailand-made) to your esteemed clients as a Diwali gift. The cost is not high, and it looks excellent.

Hi Neha,

Try greeting cards made of recycled paper and also check out the ones from the CRY foundation and other children/rural organizations. They are inexpensive and serve a cause.

You can also try this: ask your employees' kids to prepare greeting cards to send out to clients this year. You can choose the best one from the pool (if you have too many) or use all of them (if there are fewer). This not only saves costs but also will be a good employee engagement initiative to boost employee morale.

I think you should provide a 250g packet of sweets for every employee, and this benefit should apply to all employees regardless of their designation. If you implement this, two types of thinking will develop among the employees:

1. They will perceive that management considers all employees as equals.
2. This will also be a reasonable gesture on your part.

I think a bit differently in this case. Since you have asked what you can give to your clients only, my suggestion would be limited to them only. (Employees, I hope you give as per Company/Organisational policies).

Now talking of the clients and considering the financial aspect of your firm with the present volatile conditions in the Share Market, I think you can give discounts (for shares to your clients) or you can also suggest to your management to offer discounts on sales this month in all the trading that you do for your clients. It will, I think, serve two purposes: 1. there is a distinct possibility of sales going up after the discounted rates. 2. your regular customers will be more than happy to trade with your firm and will stay loyal. 3. your management will also approve of it and be pleased with you.

Also, you can gift them sweets and all which is customary. Hope this and all the above suggestions help you in some way.

Nowadays, it is a trend to give gifts to clients. It is essential to manage this for fostering good future relations and to consider it as a form of business promotion in your accounting books. Otherwise, they may choose an alternative option over you.

Hi all,

I went through the case and suggestions. Basically, the best gift a client could get is the quality in service. So, I'm a firm believer in letting the work speak. Correct me if I am wrong.

But in this case, as the company is used to presenting gifts, I would say it has already set standards and client expectations. I would still suggest not to gift anything less than what you have been gifting. I know it's not feasible because clients are important; there should be cost-cutting measures within the company to compensate for the feasibility. If time is limited, I would suggest wishing them through greetings and presenting a complimentary gift later.

I am very much interested to know what others have to say.
