Assessment Centre Pdf Download

Hi,
I would appreciate if anyone could give me some information on 'Assessment Centres' that are conducted for promotion purposes. Answers that I am looking for are..What happens in an Assessment Centre? What kind of situations are you put through? How does one prepare for it?
Also, can you suggest if there are any good books on this topic?

Thanks for that information. Actually I wanted this information for my personal use. I will be going through an Assessment Centre soon for a promotion so wanted to know how best I can prepare myself for it.

Assessment center is nothing but analysis of your capability of individual to perform at the next level. They will be looking at your spontaneous thinking, leadership qualities, communication, presentation and how you drive a team (team motivation from your end) through various soft skill trainings with little bit of exercises given prior and at end of the session to assess improvement and growth knowledge acquired in short time.
Hope this helps to have a general idea of assessment centre. :)
