Navigating Career Choices: Does Running My Own HR Consultancy Count on My Resume?

I have managed to carve out my own career in the HR profession after my MBA in IT. I own a recruitment consultancy and am involved in almost all the activities from acquiring clients, sourcing candidates' profiles from portals, making calls, and so on. We are a 4-member team, and it has been 7 months since I started this firm's operations. However, I have always had a second thought of pursuing a job, leaving behind this consultancy to my sisters who could take care of it.

So, at this stage, does my experience in my own consultancy count? What kind of phrasing can I use in my resume? Or should I simply mention the consultancy name and my experience without explicitly stating that I own it? I would appreciate your views on this.

Hi Vinod, Your experience would count, and you can very well showcase it as your own consultancy. With your experience, I think you can land a very good job in hiring (complete life cycle of hiring).

In my opinion, you should definitely look forward to a job with any of the IT companies and work under the capacity of an HR Recruiter. With this, you can use your recruitment experience, and your IT background can also be beneficial.

You can always mention during your interview rounds that you run your own consultancy and would be interested in a job with a company for more exposure.

Your experience will definitely count for your future endeavors. It will be very helpful for your career as you know the complete life cycle of HR. I would recommend not mentioning it as yours, but you can always mention my sister's company.

You should definitely post the experience and very strongly point out that you own it which adds more positive points to your profile. However, I would suggest that you continue running that as well as diversify into other areas of consultancy if you have more time than go back to a job.

Once an entrepreneur, you should only add more services to your organization's portfolio. But why work for somebody when you can yourself provide employment for others?

I am a new member of citehr. Already, I feel like I have learned a lot in just one day. Looking at the postings here, I would like to inquire and get feedback from you on the following.

I am a Malaysian citizen, educated in India (both school and university), and have been working in Malaysia since my graduation. I have a total of 18 years of working experience (around 5 in HR areas) and over 12 years in IT (projects and project management). I would like to relocate to India because the opportunities are abundant, I am seeking exposure to a different working environment and culture, I am looking forward to a potential regional role, and I can engage in my other passion, Carnatic music, alongside my professional career.

The information I am seeking includes:
- How to target and secure the right jobs in India
- What salary and benefits I can reasonably expect
- What preparations I need in terms of work areas and exposure
- Whether it is possible to obtain a work permit/employment pass for myself and my family to live and work in India

While I may not have a Master's degree, I have significant working experience in IT and HR fields. Please advise. I am looking forward to some valuable feedback.

Dear Vinod,

It would be better if you could continue to work in the consultancy and improve it, rather than looking for a job. Alternatively, you can work as a recruitment specialist, hiring specialist, HR coordinator, etc.
