Is retention of employees a difficult task for the HR or rather a challenging job?

---

In HR, employee retention can indeed be a challenging task. It requires a strategic approach that encompasses various aspects such as creating a positive work environment, offering competitive compensation and benefits, providing opportunities for career development, and fostering strong employee engagement. Retaining top talent is essential for the long-term success of any organization. By implementing effective retention strategies, HR professionals can reduce turnover rates and build a loyal and motivated workforce.

Thanks, Archna, for the reply!

However, that still doesn't answer my questions. Definitely, the views expressed to justify whether it's a difficult task or a challenge might help me understand how to go about accepting the difficult job as a challenge.

Cheers, Sona.

Dear All,

I strongly believe retention is a challenge because you really have to sit and analyze what is driving people away and what is making them stay with the organization.

Still, HR is a challenging job, but retention is the main challenge for managers. I need more information regarding this, please reply.

In my opinion, retention is definitely a challenge. How you identify, analyze, approach, and find solutions may be difficult. As an HR person, if you ensure that the employees are satisfied, provide them with appropriate monetary and non-monetary benefits, understand their need for growth, identify their capabilities, enhance and influence them, and guide them to achieve, then employee retention for the most part is taken care of.

All in all, I think an HR Manager should have a rapport and understanding with the employees.

Hi,

It is definitely a challenge. It is an art. It becomes easy if you know how to read people's minds. When you understand their needs, you can try to keep them with you. All that works the way you regard human values.

Organizations are as good as their employees, and the converse is true. The HR manager, left on his or her own, can do little to stem high turnover. If the organization has poor people management approaches, then turnover can be high. However, a good retention/talent management policy that is synchronized with the rest of the HR policies can help. It's a challenge and not that difficult! :D

Hey there! I am new to this forum and found this topic interesting. I really appreciate your point - management's support is essential for HR success. However, the reality is that HR often struggles to maintain good relationships with both management and employees. Am I right?

Hi Sona / Sagi,

First, the request comes out of the belief system that an HR person cannot be in the good books of both the management and the employees. This is precisely what an HR person must learn. Once you acquire the skill of handling different groups of people, you're there...!

Secondly, attrition is an equally important aspect of HR, sometimes even more critical than recruitment. Just like one gets rid of unwanted items and liabilities at home, for an organization to thrive, attrition is crucial. Otherwise, over time, there will be more people liabilities in the organization rather than a healthy manpower environment.

All the best in managing attrition with the same positive spirit as you do for recruitment.
