Need Help Withdrawing PF Without Visiting My Old Office – Any Advice?

Hi All,

I resigned from my former organization about a year ago in August 2007. Since then, I have shifted to a different city for a new job but unfortunately could not complete the PF formalities to clear it. I do not want to transfer the account and would like to withdraw it instead. Is there a way to do this without returning to the office? I am facing a dilemma as the amount involved is significant. Please assist.

Hi,

There are two options for getting your PF dues:

1. Fill Form 16 and send it to your ex-office for their signature, and then submit it to the PF authorities.
2. Fill up Form 16, get it notarized by a notary public, and submit it to the PF authorities.

In case of PF withdrawal, you need to fill out two forms:
1. Form 19
2. Form 10C

In your case, please download the forms from EPFO (http://www.epfindia.com), fill them out, and send them to your ex-office HR. Since you left a year ago, it is advisable to attach a few supporting documents (such as the offer letter, relieving letter, or experience letter) from your employment with that company. This will help the HR department track your details, then they will attest the forms before sending them to the PF office. Therefore, you do not need to visit your ex-office; you can get everything done this way.

Prashantha Kumar - I noticed you mentioned filling out Form 16; I believe that may have been a mistake. Please confirm this with Ambarish.

Thanks, Venkat, but do you think that downloaded forms will help? Don't they have to be sent to me by the ex-company?

The downloaded form will certainly help Ambarish. It is NOT necessary that you should receive it only from the ex-employer. However, try to get an acknowledgment from the HR on the receipt of your PF withdrawal forms.

Hi,

You can fill out the form and send it to your previous office for signing and stamping formalities. Good companies usually complete all the formalities for their employees. Do not forget to affix the attested ₹1 revenue stamp on the forms; otherwise, they will not be accepted.

Talk to the HR person in your previous company and find out if they can handle the formalities for you.

Hi,

I agree with Venkat. Check with your past employer how they are processing the PF withdrawal. Some companies directly submit the forms to the PF office. In that case, ensure you attach the cheque leaf (can be a photocopy for reference) along with the withdrawal forms. For amounts above Rs. 2000, the credit will be through ECS.

To transfer the PF account, submit Form 13 through the present employer to the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation. In Form 13, the signature of the previous employer is not required. With the introduction of NSSNumber, the transfer is expected to be easier.

Hi Ambarish,

In case you need to withdraw the PF amount, you can download the PF withdrawal form from the internet, fill it up, and send it to your ex-employer. Your ex-employer must be dealing with the PF authorities, and they can send your form to the authorities. Within 45 days of your application, you will receive all your amount in the bank account mentioned by you in your form.

We follow the same process in our organization. I hope this information will also be helpful.

I have a certain query regarding PF.

Issue is as under:

I quit my job in August 2007 (joining date 12/11/01). Now I am on my own. I received my PF contribution & employer contribution by cheque. There is a portion of this contribution that goes into a pension (the exact percentage is unknown to me) which I have not received. How can I get this and what is the procedure?

Hi,

For your information, you can download the PF withdrawal Form 19 and Form 10 C for the pension fund. You need to fill out these forms and send them to your ex-employer; they will then forward them to the PF department. You will receive your PF and pension amount (8.33%) in 2 cheques.

In case you are unable to deliver the forms to your ex-employer, you can have the PF withdrawal form signed by a gazetted officer and submit it directly to the PF regional office. Within 30 days, you will receive your amount via cheques.
