Dear All,

I am Hyma, working as a Trainer for ICFAI. I would like to know how to overcome workplace politics, especially with the most jealous colleagues. Awaiting your reply.

Hi,

Dealing with jealous colleagues... A simple way is to ask for their viewpoint on any issue to make them feel superior in a way, as it hardly matters. Your knowledge will be yours only, but if you make others feel good about it, you might encounter your daily routine problems a little less. And always remember that in our professional lives, we are not here to make friends.

Other than this, you may check out the link below. Hope that this will help you.

If you are confident in your work, no need to worry about office politics. I would say one thing, of course, this is my personal opinion: sometimes maintain a low profile. Nothing we are losing. Why am I saying this? I found this ego aspect in the younger generation, mainly engineers, MBAs, etc. They are highly paid because of their qualifications. But seniors are not digesting this. Then this conflict comes in the form of jealousy.

P.S.: Senior means age and years of working, not just qualifications. So my advice is to go with the people who understand the culture and then proceed. Initially, go their way, always listen, listen, listen. There is a formula for this:

Open your eyes
Open your ears
But close your mouth until needed

Hi, Shwe,

The idea of politics needs to be evaluated if it runs in the system from top to bottom. "Kehthe hain na... if it is encouraged from the top, then there is no use fighting it directly; the method is saap bhi mare aur lathi bhi na toote." Rest assured, take care, watch your back, and be cool.

Hi,

You should not give too much attention to office politics as it will divert your focus from work, and you may struggle to complete your tasks, potentially creating a negative impression with your boss.

Hi Hyma,

You cannot avoid office politics and professional jealousy. Always keep in mind:

Open your ears always.
Open your eyes always.
Shut your mouth and open it whenever necessary.

This can be the mantra for survival.

If we pay some attention over our body structure you will see that we have two ears and only one mouth so the nature itself wants us to listen more and speak less and only when appropriate. This is the golden rule of dealing with politics. The more you will speak on different aspects the more problems you will face. Try to be courteous to everyone & appreciate them. In the start of a person's career it is very important not to involve him/her in organizational politics but as important is to learn it because the more you will excel in your career the more you need to have the skill to deal with politics.
I would say that focus on your work and make you mark in the company them even think about these issues.

Hi Hyma,

Politics is everywhere, so to save yourself, the best approach is to put 100% effort into your work and ignore what's going on around you. However, it's essential to keep an eye on everything without discussing the matter, all while maintaining a broad smile on your face. Get focused solely on your work and begin prioritizing your personal life as soon as you finish your office tasks. This is how I have won the match. There are still people who are involved in politics, but I work diligently, giving priority to my work and personal life.

The benefit is that I am aware of everything but focus solely on my job. My management is pleased with me, but my colleagues are jealous and continue their habit of being politicians.
