Hi, Can anyone please tell me wot is challan? As I gone for the interview for "HR Executive" and they asked me abt challan and i was totally blank that time.
Please reply ASAP.

I think the challan means some kind of voucher used for remitting statutory payments at treasurery.

What I understand:
1) Challan means "Receipt for payment or delivery" or "Receipt of your payment with acknowledgment" or "Official receipt of payment"
2) Challan means the requisite form filled to pay cash, cheque, Demand draft in any Bank or any government office etc.

Actually challan is not a receipt, if you paid money on challan it is authorised payment, it goes to your PF account, if you takes loan on PF Accout it treated as repayment voucher.

For HR executive challans are generally related to PF&ESI challans where its particular format printed/to be filled by furnishing the details of ur PF/ESIC account numbers,amounts to be deposited,for the month of etc etc.
For general challans are those for penalty /fine by RTA/Traffic police etc its a revenue collecting term used by above official.
Another challan normally used while selling products thru invoices/bills which only contains non commercial descriptions of the sold/invoiced products and the seller gets a signature of receiver.
I hope most of the challans definations is given.

For HR challans the terms required for PF and ESIC.According to PF and ESIC law and some others laws are thier every organisation has to fulfill statutory rquirements like returns like monthy returns.Related to PF and ESIC its Monthy returns. Factory act returns, minimum wages returns, then unpaid wages returns like so many.
To fill up this returns the term used " Challans"
Returns are paid to asst.commissioner office of perticular region.:-P
This kind of que are expected from freshers!

Challan is nothing but an instrument through which any payment or transaction is made. This will have the detailed information about the mode of payment/transaction. It cannot be called as receipt and can only be acknowledged.

Hi Friend,
I have attached a file containing example of PF challan. This might help you out to some extent. The meaning of challan is already being explained to you by many people. I would like to add on one more kind of challan which is called treasuary challan used to respect to labour department.
