Struggling with Dress Code and ID Card Compliance? Share Your Policy Examples Here

Hi, all,

In my company, regardless of repeated reminders, employees never adhere to the dress code and never wear their ID cards. I personally feel that if employees are not willing to wear a simple ID card for 8 hours, what pride can they reflect in the market?

Being an HR professional, I want all employees to respect the policies that we have put in place, considering various factors. We emphasize formal attire to demonstrate professionalism to the diverse customers who engage with us for business.

Can anyone share with me a sample Dress Code Policy and ID Card Policy?

Regards,
Vinay

Why don't you ask your employees why they do not like wearing the ID card or formal attire. Maybe your problem will be solved once you know the reasons for it.

Yes, get feedback from the members who don't adhere to the dress code or wear ID cards. You will come to know whether it is a sheer attitude problem or something practical about it. For example, we have a uniform policy for office assistants and drivers only. The company provides them with the material and reimburses the stitching charges. Till a few years ago, there was reluctance in wearing the uniform. When asked, everyone voiced that they did not like the color of the uniform and the shirting cloth did not allow ventilation at all. Both problems were addressed to their satisfaction. No defaulters now.

You may have a similar problem here. If it is an attitude problem, deal with it through initial prompting and sterner action subsequently.

Hi Vinay,

Why don't you arrange for something called a group discussion or a small get-together and ask questions, as one of our friends suggested? Then, try to convey that the dress code doesn't bind you to a particular pattern but rather promotes uniformity within the organization.

We had to require that our office staff be measured and fitted for their uniforms. Many of them wore clothing that was much too baggy for their body types, which led to a very unprofessional and unstructured look. The solution was to choose a uniform company to provide us with suiting. Previously, it was a business casual office; however, now we are business formal because it is easier and looks much better.

We chose the fabric, suiting, and accessories. About a week before delivery, each employee was measured for a strict fit. Upon delivery, the employees each received their three uniform suits, and each person had clothing that fit them snugly (but properly) at the waist, neck, and everywhere else that counts. Some employees are unhappy and claim to be uncomfortable, but they haven't quit! Additionally, customers have complimented us on our uniformity, professionalism, and formality.

In the end, sometimes dress codes are not democratic, and employees must accept this or move on.

I'm in the process of drafting an HR policy, and I want to include a dress code policy in it. If it's possible, please share your dress code policy with me.

The company must strictly enforce the dress code and ID card policy for employees, and then the employees will adhere to it. I think so!
