Employee Provident Fund (PF) Number Retrieval and Claim Process

ashwin981
Hi all,

I want to know my PF account number, as I worked in a previous company and left the company after 1 year of service. Now the problem is, the employer is not giving the PF account number, and they are unnecessarily delaying it. Even after asking them many times, they are not providing it. Is there any other way to know the PF account number so that I can withdraw the money or transfer the previous PF number to the current organization?

Please help me on this.

Ashwin,

PF number is only provided by your employer. Check your salary slip if you have any from your previous employer. Try to talk to your HR person for what they are holding your PF details. No employer has the right to hold PF of any employees. If it spreads out, the employer would lose his goodwill. You have full right to claim the amount deducted from your salary; else, you can even sue the organization.

Sandeep,

Regarding your query, only the employer can calculate and give you a rough picture of your balance in PF. For that matter, you can also have a rough estimate by calculating the amount they have deducted from your salary so far since day one. Also, include the employer's contribution. Add both and include a nominal interest of about 8%. I hope I answered your query.

I really don't understand how you can not have your PF numbers when the same has been deducted from your salary. The only option you have is to contact your previous employer for the same. If they are not providing it, then ask them why they are hesitant to give you the number. You can then take steps accordingly.

Dear All,

I have been working in a company for 1 year and nine months in the year 2006. Since I had a personal problem, but it's exactly a problem with my boss. At that time, I left my job immediately without notice, but properly handed over everything. I didn't try to get my PF amount, and also, I was not aware that I can claim even after improper resignation. I don't know my PF number, and it is not on my payslip. I have my employer's number and my employee code. Is it okay to get the PF number? Is there any way to get the PF number without seeking help from my employer? Or should I ask for help from them? Please guide me.

Regards,
Ganesh

Dear all,

I worked in the company for 4 years. The company deducted Rs 780 from the employee's side and Rs 780 from their side for PF, but they did not provide us with the PF number. When we asked for it, they mentioned that they would provide the PF number once we left the company. However, upon leaving the company, they did not provide me with my PF number. I have also sent emails to higher authorities, but I have not received any response. I suspect that they did not deposit the PF amount. I have Form 16 where they have mentioned PF and salary slip, but the PF number is not included in either of them.

1. Can anyone help me with how to get my PF number?
2. Is there a process to obtain the PF number through RTI?
3. How can I sue the company for this issue? Should I file a case in the labor court or the EPF office?

Please suggest what actions I can take.

Everyone who doesn't know their EPF number and has left the company or resigned already must visit the HR personnel or the company personally and ask for the EPF number directly, as you have the right to know your EPF number.

For those who are currently working but still don't know their EPF number, you need to check your salary slip where you can find your EPF number. If not found, you should visit HR immediately for assistance.

It is not possible for HR to deny providing an employee their EPF number, and it can be made available anytime.

@Ashwani: Ensure you have resigned following the complete resignation procedure, with no pending issues. If there are any, refrain from communicating via telephone/mobile and visit them personally to inquire about any discrepancies.

@Ganesh, Mr. Vishwarup, and Ramprasad, you also need to visit your employer to obtain your EPF number and understand the EPF claim process. You can visit them at your convenience, but remember to bring your employment details such as Salary Slip, Appointment letter, F&F copy, Exit clearance, and the acceptance of your resignation if applicable, or any other relevant documents.

@Sandeep Gupta, please visit http://epfindia.com and provide your complete details as instructed. You will receive the balance status via SMS on your registered mobile number with EPF.

@Nagam, you don't need to worry as it is the employer's responsibility to register employees with EPFO and ESIC.

Sir,

In my payslip, there is a number mentioned as "company pan" starting with AAACL and ending with K. I called my previous office, and they said my PF number is written on my payslip. However, there was only an employee code and company PAN. What is this company PAN?

Hi,

My father worked in a company during 1984, and he doesn't have any PF number with him. Now the problem is the company has shut down their process way back in the 90s, and the owner might not be alive. Is there any way to get the PF number or to withdraw the amount? Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You may contact your nearest Provident Fund office. They will guide you on what to do for the withdrawal of PF.

Hi all,

My sister is working with an organization. As per her appointment letter, she has been appointed as a contract employee. There has been a deduction of PF amount from her salary for the last 8 months (since her date of joining). However, she has not yet received her PF number. Upon inquiry with HR, we were informed that the Account Number has still not been received by them from the PF office. I need guidance on this matter.

Hi,

I am working in an old organization that was established in the year 2010. I am handling all HR responsibilities, but I recently discovered that they have lost the original copy of the PF registration. If anyone knows how to obtain a duplicate copy, please advise me as it would be beneficial.

Thank you.
Glidor
To register, you need to submit Form 5A online and then submit a hard copy to the EPF office along with the necessary documents. The stamped copy of Form 5A serves as proof of registration.
