Demanding Offer Letter Before Relieving

Dear All,
Is it a fair labour practice to demand offer letter whenever an employee puts in resignation stating reason better career prospects???
Can we incorporate this clause in Appointment letter....

One of our employee submitted resignation stating the reason as Better Career prospects and he mentioned the name of the organisation from where he got the offer.
My reporting head instructed to take a copy of offer letter from those who put in their papers in future. Also he want to incorporate a clause (to show offer letter)in the appointment letter.......

Hi!
There's no such clause wherein an employer can demand from an exiting employee for a copy of the offer letter of the new company.
It is absolutely at the discretion and the comfort level shared by the employee to let the manager know where he / she is joining. No one can force anyone.
I don't think that you can even add such a clause to the appointment letter.

no employer has the right to ask for the copy of the offer letter provided by the ohter employer. This can never be included in ur AL.
If the employee is not interseted in sharing the information about the future employer to the present employer then noone can force him to do that.
Many people have many personal reasons to quit the job and not necessary to expalin everything in detail to anybody.

I wonder how could an employer ask for such a thing.He dont have any legal right till date to ask for the reasons for leaving.Probably money is the monitoring factor in this matter.

Are you sure that he is a employer. Bcoz i havn't heard about these type of employer.
Employer has no right about the employees who left the organization.

No wayz Masbee... An employer does not have any legal right to ask a single question that where is his employee going to join, how much are they offering, etc... You can not include this clause in your appointment letter. This is legally invalid.

Sorry for the late reply. I was not online. Anywayz, I think you have got the answer. And this is right that an employer can not ask from his employee to show his/her offer letter of the new company.
DO NOT put this clause in the appointment letter. Your company may get in trouble.

no way the employer has the right to ask such silly questions and we cant add such clause in the appt.letter....and no one would do it also..if you demand for the offer letter...will your manager do?
