Curious About HR Opportunities Abroad? How to Find Companies That Send HR Teams Overseas and What You Need to Know About Applying in the US

Dear Seniors,

I've been working for a software company for the past 1.5 years. I've seen a lot of techies go abroad, but I haven't seen anyone from the HR team going abroad. I want to know the names of companies that send employees working in HR abroad. If I want to apply for a job in the US, what are the requirements/eligibility criteria, and what are the chances of getting hired in the US?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Sriram

Hi Sriram,

I hope you read the newspaper and watch BBC news. Are you aware of the recession taking place in the US with the weakening dollar and natural calamities striking every now and then? This is what life is. I'm struggling to come back to India and work as the economy is booming. You want to leave the country and travel to the US. You are lucky to be in Bangalore and working in an IT company. Don't go with the fantasy of traveling abroad and working. You realize only once you are there what you have done for yourself. In London and the US, racism is increasing day by day. People are getting killed due to racist attacks. Anyways, sorry I'm not demotivating you. It's just a harsh truth which you need to face. So be happy for what you have and where you are.

Hi Sriram,

Unlike IT jobs where the same knowledge is applicable in all countries, HR jobs require country-specific knowledge as well as universally applicable concepts. Labor laws vary significantly from country to country, necessitating a formal education in these laws. Moreover, different countries have their own certifications such as SPHR, GPHR, etc.

Some of my friends working abroad have mentioned that managing workforce diversity or implementing policies in a foreign country presents a considerable challenge. They often feel like outsiders, especially coming from an underdeveloped country, attempting to assert authority. Consequently, many individuals are not inclined towards pursuing HR roles overseas. However, there are opportunities with consultancies like MaFoi and Adecco, which serve international clients. Nevertheless, the likelihood of securing a middle or senior-level HR position is quite low.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need further information.

Best regards
