Dear Vidhya,

I appreciate your experience and want to know if our society truly understands the importance of the HR department, specifically the process of purely merit-based recruitment.

Thank you.

Hi Aman,

Yes, our society does understand the importance of the HR Department. However, there is still a lot of evolution required to happen. Also, the HR function is currently a support function, but it is expected to evolve into a service function with a client-customer relationship with other technical departments of the company.

Of course, a merit-based recruitment approach will take the organization a long way. We are slowly but steadily learning to make decisions and work for the long term rather than just meeting short-term goals. Sujeet, one of our forum members, rightly said that instead of only focusing on closing the current mandate, we should also work towards future potential job openings, which will contribute to strategic talent acquisition. We all must strive for that.

Nothing can happen overnight, but I am confident that each of us, as HR professionals, is certainly working towards the beginning of a new era in HR.

I hope I have answered your question.

Dear Vidhya,

Thank you for your response. I am from Pakistan and currently working in Pakistan's leading bank as an HR Officer. I would like to share my experience with you.

Here, people are not fully aware of the importance of HR. The top management tends to recruit based on political affiliations, personal connections, and sometimes even through monetary incentives. As a result, many professionals are choosing to leave the country.

You are absolutely right.

Best regards,
Aman

Hi Vidhya,

It was really very useful reading about your experience as a recruiter. Not only did I enjoy it, but I have also sent the file to my friends too. Keep posting your experience.

Thank you for providing useful information. I am also involved in the recruitment process, and believe me, it's really interesting work. You get to meet various personalities and assess them, or they assess us. Sometimes we really feel the urge to help a candidate we want to be selected, but unfortunately, we are unable to influence the situation.

Thanks for the information anyway.

Hi, I am Santosh from Chennai. I wish to start an HR consulting firm (my own) in Chennai initially for junior and middle-level positions in all verticals. Please send me your valuable suggestions and experiences which would help me in making a positive start. I would be grateful for your invaluable suggestions right from:

- Business plan
- Feasibility of starting from home
- Service tax, Registration of the firm, any other formalities (Also appreciated if there are any concessions in vogue for Ex-Defence Staff)
- Basic infrastructure needs (keeping costs minimal)
- If not at home, strategic location planning
- How to attract business firms/clients
- What should be my ideal staff size like reception, business development, Marketing executive, etc. (Their expertise)
- Why a contract with job portals is advantageous and disadvantageous
- What should be my ideal service charge to a firm
- Signing contract agreements with firms
- Pros and cons of becoming a franchisee

And any other information.

Your earliest response is appreciated to finalize my plan. Thanks to all.

Hi madam,

Very good information you've provided. With your great experience, can you help me out in doing competency mapping in an organization? What competencies should be taken into consideration, and how should we start? What should be the first step? I would be grateful if you could assist me in this case.

Dear Vidya,

I just saw your post, and it was very informative. With all your expertise and experience, I guess you will be the person who can help me out. I just need your suggestion on my career front.

I have completed my 10+2+3 years diploma in computer science and have also done some certificate courses on HR and recruitment. I have around 6 years of experience, out of which 3 years have been in background screening in client relations or client account management - operations. Lately, I don't see any future in the verification industry due to various reasons.

I would like to transition into HR, but due to my qualifications and irrelevant experience, I am finding it challenging to make the switch. I struggled hard to move away from the verification industry, only to end up in another job in an HR services company, not related to verifications, where I took a hit on my salary as well as designation.

I am looking for a good offer where my talents are utilized properly and compensated accordingly. Kindly advise me on what I should do in this situation and how to navigate through it.

My skill sets include background verification, client relations, client account management, recruitment, and knowledge about computer hardware as well as MS-Office.

Great job done,

Dear Friends,

I am working as an HR manager. We have an AGM meeting in December where I have to present introduced policies and an induction manual. I am new to this organization, and there are no existing policies. I have to create everything new. Although I am working on that, please help me if you can. My bosses are very negative; they never appreciate my work. In this condition, I am very nervous about what to do. Please help me.
